Hot weather brings on a beer drought

THE spell of hot, dry weather has caused a beer drought in South Wales.
Stocks of Tomos Watkin OSB in bottles have been completely exhausted over the past fortnight.
The award-winning old style bitter which is brewed in Swansea has been selling at four times its usual rate.
A massive 48,000 bottles have been sold since the hot weather descended on the region.
While the Hurns Brewing Company which makes the beer normally sells it at a rate of 6,000 bottles a week in the past fortnight the 24,000 bottle per week rate has left officials there staggered.
Hurns' managing director Phil Parry said yesterday , "We have completely sold out of bottles and we did not anticipate it so we're struggling to keep up with demand.
"It is usual to see a bit of an uplift in sales when the hot weather hits but this really has been phenomenal.
"This is the first year we have been supplying OSB in bottles throughout the summer and the sales data seems to indicate that people are stocking up for barbecues at home or at-home socialising as well as enjoying a bottle or two when they're out and about so orders have just shot through the roof.
"The trade seems to still have stocks of the product even though we as a brewery are low on supplies so the good news is all our customers should be OK for the Bank Holiday.
"However we will busy overseeing another bottle run at the brewery to ensure if this good weather continues throughout June we will be able to keep up with demand."

I really did try. I was passing through, and the barmaid was so personable and cute I had to at least try.

As was said way back when - White Socks, Red Necks and Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer.
It won the taste test in Consumer Reports magazine about 5 years ago. I tried it and liked it better than the Bud I had been drinking. I like dark beers and this had more flavor. I don't like beers like Sam Adams.
LOL. I guess it depends (dang, again) on what one defines as "weekend."
I never claimed to be on a low carb diet, in fact, however, I'm quite fond of airborne marination.... mesquite, hickory, cherry, apple... I try to occasionally try to offset those "empty calories."

That’s why we have several different brands and types - people have differing taste in beer as with most things.
My taste in beer runs to the dark, full bodied aromatics. When I can afford it I buy Guinness or McEwan Ale. Normally I stick with bottled Budweiser and Sam Adams Lager.
I used to drink Old Milwaukee years ago, but found it to be somewhat lacking in the taste department - almost a watered down taste. I feel fortunate now to be able to afford Bud.
I don't know who I plagiarized this from, might be another freeper. Somehow had it in my e-mail. But, I thought the beer part was appropriate for here. The whole thing is much longer and stays humorous throughout.
LIBERALS and CONSERVATIVES:
The division of the human family into its two distinct branches occurred some 10,000 years ago, a few hundred years after the flood. Humans coexisted as members of small bands of nomadic hunter/gatherers.
In the pivotal event of societal evolution, beer was invented. This epochal innovation was both the foundation of modern civilization and the occasion of the great bifurcation of humanity into its two distinct subgroups: Liberals and Conservatives.
Once beer was discovered, it required grain, and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle or aluminum can had yet been invented, so it was necessary to stick pretty close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.
Some men spent their days killing animals to barbecue at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of the conservative movement.
Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting, learned how to live off conservatives by showing up for the BBQs every night and doing women's work like sewing, fetching and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the liberal movement. Later, some of the liberals actually became women.
Liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, invention of group therapy and democratic voting to see how to divide the beer and meat that the conservatives provided. Women were not interested in democracy at that time because most of them were still women back then, and the conservatives fed them.
Conservatives are symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.
Modern Liberals like imported beer (they add lime), but most prefer white wine or foreign water in a bottle. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are on liberal menus. Their women have more testosterone than the men. Liberals like deviant sex and want others to like it too. Their first successful city governments were Sodom and Gomorrah.
Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, and group therapists are Liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule in baseball because it wasn't "fair" to make the pitcher also bat..
Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat, and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumber jacks, construction workers, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, soldiers, athletes, and generally anyone who works productively outside government. Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.
Drinking beer is good and wholesome, but I prefer to drink it once a month, so as to make it a special occasion.

Pretty good - and the first part is pretty credible. Beer brewing did coincide closely with agriculture and the first cities.
The rest was pretty good too - and welcomingly humorous. I do like starting the morning with a few chuckles.

I love cheap domestic beer.
I drink imported every now and then to see how it tastes, when I find a brand I never have had.
