To: Utah Girl

I just heard the terrible news. In four days the U.S lost more than 4,000 men fighting over a stategically meaningless island. What was Bush thinking. Oh wait, that was FDR at Iwo Jima.

But we did lose those 3,000 guys in a fifteen minute frontal attack on a fortified position. That's Rummy for you. Well no, actually that was Grant at Cold Habor.

Thank G-d we didn't have the democratic party and the mass media in those days, or there would be no United States to defend Western Civilization.

THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated. - Thomas Paine

We did have Democrats then. They were the ones killing the 3,000 men to keep slavery alive.

As for the mass media, they still wanted us out of WWII. You see, there were no German's found attacking Pearl Harbor. No link at all. And the German's didn't have WMD's either. AS a matter of fact, the press has pointed out ever since that the U.S. was the only ones who used WMD in WWII.

It just doesn't matter that the evil the world would have endured uner Hitler or Sadaam would have eliminated races of people from existence. To them, no cause is worth even one human life. And that attitiude cheapens every right and cause we hold dear and sacred. And on Memorial Day, their view cheapens every death to pointless and unnecessary.

Your point isn't lost, but I wanted to point out the Marines incurred 7,000 KIA and 19,000 WIA seizing Iwo Jima. This was done because it eliminated a kamikaze staging area, provided a launching point for P-51 escorts to Japan, and I've read estimates of as many as 2,000 B-29's making emergency landings at Iwo (crew of 10).
