FRANKEN TAKES A BITE: There is finally some good news out of the Air America camp. Early returns indicate the liberal radio network's afternoon host Al Franken actually beat Rush Limbaugh in New York City last month in the race for the Big Apple's 25- to 54-year-old listeners. If that turns out to be true - heck, if Franken is even close to Limbaugh - it will be a boost to the fledgling network's viability.

Wow!
Or is it merely morbid curiosity that drives the youngsters to listen to Franker?
Like a child who can't pry her eyes from a freakishly deformed person she passes on the street.
Its BS...from what I have gathered...
The time slot they compared against Rush was twice as long and not his time slot...
From what I understand Franken doesn't even run opposite Rush in New York...
so the newspapers talk about Air America's debut, they talk about this (phony) rating but THEY DON'T TALK ABOUT THE TROUBLE THE NETWORK IS IN????
Now, liberals have started lying? What next?
Those that do probably listen more to FM, Spanish, and Korea stations to name a few.
Surely they don't mean the entire broadcast territory, I'm really not buying that one.
Godd news for Franken! Now he'll have to beat the advertisers off with a stick.
As usual the truth in the link posted in msg #4 explains what really happened. And .. the hours Franken says he beat Rush .. Rush is not on the air. My my .. imagine that ..!!
It's just the "crooked, lying bunch" AGAIN!!
25-54 year old WHAT listeners? Registered Democrat voters who are "anyone but bush voters"?
Typical guerilla marketing 101, be a first at something. It does not matter, thus franken should game the numbers SOMEHOW to be a number one in the ratings at something.
How many movie bombs were PR'ed as "hits"? This statistic may good news but the viewers and advertisers running like the plague says otherwise.
I suspect this is going to be used to trying and get more money out of their investors. (suckers)
Rush in on from 12 to 3 pm in NYC and they claim a win between 10 am and 3 pm in that demographic group. I don't see why people have a hard time with this - NYC is a leftist strong hold - NYC is not Utah.
Actually that is how radio ratings and marketing works regardless of politics. Television ratings are like that also.
Actually, no. Airamerica is trying to get money via commercials - and people who buy air time know how to read ratings - they will buy commercial air time based on those rating numbers.
I didn't know Franken was on for the whole 5 hours - I thought it was just the first 2 (10-12). Which would mean that Franken's numbers were not up against Rush.
The headlines that DespAir America should be getting is that despite an unprecedented mainstream media-aided PR campaign announcing their targeting of right-wing radio, they're about to vanish without a trace, and Rush et al have defeated them soundly without breaking a sweat.
Well if so - those 2 hours before Franken must be huge to offset the loss of Franken to Rush in the following 3 hours since ratings for a block of hours is based on the average.
Why would you think Franken could not beat Rush in NYC? The leftists strong hold NYC? You must have assumed national ratings over local ratings was where the win for Franklin was???
