Roman Catholic laymen clashed with gay Catholics and their allies Sunday in a nonviolent confrontation over gays participating in the eucharist.

About 40 men from a recently formed group, Ushers of the Eucharist, collected in the central aisle in the Cathedral of St. Paul during holy communion and asked the Rainbow Sash Alliance not to take part.

They then knelt in the aisle to block those wearing rainbow sashes, which symbolize support of gay Catholics taking communion. Other members of the group created a bottleneck by kneeling in front of the altar.

At one point, ushers directed worshipers to proceed to communion ministers through the side aisles.

"To have men who are clearly men of God hold to the theology of spiritual violence just breaks my heart."

Maybe they're men of God embracing proper theology. *rolls eyes*

About time some Christians started fighting back IMO. They handled the gays perfectly by blocking the alter.

Communion is sacred and only those who have rightly examined themselves and seek active forgiveness through repentance should partake. The "in your face gays" obviously have not. They only desire validation.

Let them get validation someplace else besides a Catholic church!!

Good job.

More accurately: Group tries to block unconfessed sinners at communion.

That's the problem... They are practicing THEIR faith, not the faith of Christ...

Show them the door of the Church and tell them they are welcome if they come in a spirit of repentance and struggle-- nobody's perfect.

However, if they come in a spirit of pride, show them the door.

They can always form their own church and then they can practice their faith as they want.

I'm afraid that the Church has lost its high ground with gay priests who molest innocent young parishioners.

Indeed the Roman Catholic Church may never recover from the gutter to which it has descended.

The church has faced far worse crisis than this one, and the Holy Spirit has seen it through the trials and tribulations. As Christ promised, the gates of hell shall not prevail againt it.

Furthermore, as terrible as it is, the Priest molestation crisis extends to only a small segment of priests in the United States and a tiny portion of priests worldwide. To throw the entire Church under the bus because of the acts of a few week men is ridiculous, as is judging the entire Church of 900+ million on these acts of the few.

If their faith is indeed Christianity they are way wrong. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that homosexuality is an abomination. To flaunt it in one of the Sacrements is so far over the top that it defies description.

Try walking into an Orthodox Jewish synagogue and see if they will let you read from the Koran. That is the equivalent to what these pro-gay bigots, who DEMAND they be served communion as if it were some kind of right, are doing.

Seem to recall how the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy about
a time when men would be lovers of themselves more than
lovers of God. Were I in attendence at such a church --where the Priest administering Communion was so weak that he would prefer to allow the unworthy recieve Communion
thus embrace their sin-I would recall what Jeuss taught His
disciples and I would depart and shake the very dust of that place -for it will be better for the land of Sodom and
Gommorah,on the day of judgement -than for that city.If the
prelate embraces evil then what is there to save of a house?

As a Catholic, as I understand the teachings of the church, the church teaches that homosexuals who practice celibacy are accepted within the church. This is true within many Christian denominations, and not just Roman Catholics.

The Church requires anyone receiving Holy Communion to have no grievous or mortal sins on their souls. If the members of this group met all those requirements, then according to the church, they are able to receive Holy Communion.

Do I believe that people can be homosexuals and practice celibacy? Yes, I do. These people are bigots by definition. (Webster's New World Dictionary). bigot, n., 1. a person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion, etc. 2. a narrow-minded person.

Whether we agree or disagree with these individuals to me is of no importance. That is between them, God, and their priest. I have enough trouble worrying about my own soul to worry about theirs.

Reprobates trying to force those called to be Saints to embrace their unrepentant evil would be more the case.
Noplace in Scripture is homosexual sex called acceptable
in the sight of God. The First great Commandment is we are
to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind-- The
second is we are to love our neighbor as ourself. We can be
obedient in neither if we allow those who continue in sin
to continue with their fist in the face of God.

So, they formed a dyke and had queers in back of them and queers in front of them.. did the blockade work ?...

From their website:

In wearing the Rainbow Sash we proclaim that we are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people who embrace and celebrate our sexuality as a sacred gift.

In wearing the Rainbow Sash we call the Roman Catholic Church:

*to honor our wisdom and experience;

*to enter into public dialogue with us;

*to work with us for justice and understanding.

Together, let us seek a new appreciation of human sexuality in all of its diversity and beauty.

"embrace and celebrate our sexuality" =/= "celibate Christian fighting same-sex temptations"

The latter is welcome at communion, the first is not.

Heros trying to prevent open sodomites from defiling the Eucharist is more like it.

If Sodomites want to start their own church, that's their business.

But sodomites, child molesters, bigamists, polygamists and other open perverts should not try to drag our church through their filth.

Let's see if these "brave" gays will take their act to the local mosque, and pray to allah with their homosexual colors flying.
