Convicted Bali bomber Ali Imron has described how he and another militant used a mobile phone to trigger one of three blasts that rocked the Indonesian resort island of Bali 19 months ago.

Imron, who is serving a life sentence, was testifying in the trial of Jhoni Hendrawan, alias Idris, who could face death if convicted under an anti-terrorism law of involvement in the blasts on October 12, 2002, which killed 202 people.

Hendrawan, 30, is the last detained Bali bomb suspect to stand trial.

He is charged with planning the bombings by attending several meetings along with other suspects between August and September 2002, and with surveying targets.

He is also accused of detonating a bomb that did not claim casualties near the US consulate on October 12.

The bomb exploded almost simultaneously with two other devices which caused carnage in the Kuta nightclub strip.

Imron told a Jakarta court he had been introduced to Hendrawan by his (Imron's) older brother Amrozi, who is one of three people condemned to death for the attacks and who is waiting for his case to be reviewed by a panel of supreme court judges.

He said he and Hendrawan together triggered the consulate bomb by dialling a number stored in the mobile phone under the codename "little house".

Prosecutors also accuse Hendrawan of transporting 130 kilograms of explosives later used in Jakarta's Marriott Hotel blast in August last year which killed 12 people.

He faces up to 20 years jail if found guilty of involvement in the Marriott attack.

The Al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiah (JI) is accused of staging both attacks to avenge perceived Western oppression of Muslims worldwide.

Hendrawan, whose trial is continuing, is appearing in Jakarta because of his alleged involvement in the Marriott attack.

Courts in Bali have already sentenced 33 people for the bombings there.

Several key Bali suspects are still being hunted, including Malaysian explosives experts Noordin Mohammad Top and Azahari Husin, who are also accused of involvement in the Marriott blast.

Ban cell phones on all NYC subways and rail roads and immediately start installing cell phone jammers!

- Hey government, are you paying attention??? Take a few minutes from the 911 commission's witch-hunt and political grandstanding and focus on preventing future attacks.

These political hacks care more about winning elections than our countries national security.
