As a fellow agnostic, I 100% understand!!! That and so much more in the last 2-1/2 years or so.
I am a Christian, have been for many years, but only within the last 8 years have I really seen how vital character and integrity are, or should be, with respect to our leadership.
I want to encourage you in your search for God, that He knows who you are, and that He wants you to come to Him. If you've seen the movie "The Passion", I can tell you that any more of an accurate portrayal of what happened to Jesus, God in the flesh, would have been given a multiple X rating. He did that so you would not have to suffer eternal punishment.
There is a proverb that says that "the heart of the king is in the hands of the Lord; He directs it like a river...". Yes, we were blessed not to have Gore as our President. We were also blessed that the 3,000 dead on 9-11 was not 30,000 or more, as was initially feared. There is a God, and He is waiting to hear from you.
I want to issue a friendly challenge to you. If you really want to know who God is, ask Him to show Himself to you. I am believing that He will do so. Be careful, though, for once you acknowledge that there is a God, you are accountable to Him WHEN you see Him, and one excuse will not be "I didn't know".
In any case, your point is well taken, about Gore, and presumably, 9-11. I am praying for you!
Thank you.
