Day After Tomorrow must be getting rotten word of mouth. It had a huge start but it's already dropping like a rock, only three days out.

Good news for conservatives.

I am som glad to hear this. I hope The Day After Tomorrow doesn't even make back what it cost to produce.

1st day estimate, if even just somewhat accurate, makes it fairly likely it will make back cost of production.

Good news? It made $70 million in three days and $82 million more overseas in that time. Tomorrow is a holiday, so it'll still pull in more than $10 million. So that's probably $165 million in just four days worldwide. It's total cost to make and market is about $175 million. So with the studio's roughly 55% cut of box office, it's breakeven point in box office will be around $318 million. Even with huge drops, it's going to make some money (real money that would make Mr. Moore green with commie envy). So the producer gets to be a big Hollywood hero.

It's only in second place because another film is setting new records, not because it bombed.

I did actually go see the movie. Basically plays like a souped up TV movie. The special effects are pretty cool, but not better than in other movies of the past. What I think is very interesting about the political angle is that Quaid's character talks of the Kyoto accords as an answer to global warming, but states the events that would eventually unfold in the movie had not happened in 10,000 years. Thus, the far-fetched events of the movie had happened some 10,000 years prior, without the assistance of evil internal combustion engines, emissions from vile industries of various types, etc. Yet the premise of the movie is that the cataclysm is some how man-made. I guess this means those woolly mammoths, saber toothed tigers, and various other now extinct animals got just what they deserved, being the chief polluters of their day.

Shrek stars that ditz Cameron Diaz. Neither movie is worth my spending the gas, time and money to see.

Not really. It is pretty constant.

It is targeted at an older audience, so Friday would be big.

When I saw Friday's numbers I expected Shrek to win the weekend because it will draw kids in Friday-Monday.

I saw the movie, and it wasn'too bad. The special effects are worth it. The plot and dialog were average. (I thought Van Helsing was worse) Of course the science behind it was total bunk. Even the global warming scientist dissed pretty good. Only a couple of time did I get a "barf moment". Could have been pretty good. Again, should see it for the special effects.

Today, outside the mall theater where Day After Tomorrow was playing (on two screens?!), a table manned by two eager Democrats was nearby. The table was covered with Kerry bumper stickers and buttons, as if people were going to rush out of the theater, champing at the bit to heal the earth by voting for JFnK. Let's hope they don't - and don't get the same urge after watching Moore's cinematic garbage.

Saw Shrek 2 today. It was cute, and an absolute technical marvel. Go see it, even if you think Cameron Diaz is a ditch - it's easy to ignore her since she's just a voice, not seen on the screen. Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots was hilarious.

I also saw both. Day wasn't bad entertainment. Check your brain at the door. But I loved Van Helsing. It was a comic book with the writing to match.

How is that an 'upset'?

A good movie beats out a total dud.

Who'd a thunk.
