Dalai Lama Laments Abuse of Iraqi Prisoners
Reuters News Service ^ | May 30, 2004 | Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) - The Dalai Lama said on Monday he had been shocked by U.S. soldiers abusing prisoners in Iraq's notorious Abu Ghraib prison, according to Britain's Guardian newspaper.

"America generally we consider a champion of liberty, justice -- these things -- so then for something such as this to happen, we regard as shocking," said the exiled leader of Tibet's Buddhists.

The aging monk is on a week-long visit to Britain, drawing large crowds to his lectures, but he will not meet Prime Minister Tony Blair.

He said Tibetans had much experience of abuse at the hands of their Chinese occupiers: "A lot of torture, a lot of abuse, sexual abuse."

Chinese troops imposed Communist rule on Tibet in 1950 and the Dalai Lama fled nine years later after a failed uprising. China claims Tibet as part of its territory and accuses the Buddhist monk of separatist activities.

Photographs and videotapes of the abuse at Abu Ghraib prison have battered President Bush's election-year approval ratings, alienated public sentiment in the Arab world and even sparking protests from allies in the U.S.-led coalition.

The exiled Dalai Lama has a whole group of people in Tibet under the bondage of his Satanic cult. This "peaceful" guru is about as loving as Mao was.

"This "peaceful" guru is about as loving as Mao was."

Well, since Mao was known as a mass murderer, perhaps you can tell us where the millions are that the Dalai Lama murdered?

I lament 9/11 and the fact that they want us dead! These prisoners were the real bad guys. Find out what they did, Dolly, and then come back and lament.

The exiled Dalai Lama has a whole group of people in Tibet under the bondage of his Satanic cult.

This is the first time in my life I have heard Buddhism described as a "satanic cult". The reason for that is probably that the charge is absurd and unsupported by a shred of truth.

By the way, I think it is a bit silly to desribe a religion that is 3000 years old, with millions of members worldwide, with no mandatory creed or statement of belief, with no restrictions on entry or departure from the fold, and no leader, as a "cult".

I'd be just as justified calling you a "jackass".

I respect the Dalai Lama. He does teach peace.

HOWEVER,he should stay out of politics.

Did he condemn Saddam's atrocities?

If not, he should not be cricizing the US, because a few soldiers slighly mistreated a bunch of terrorists.

I thought there was no right and wrong in Buddhism as well as no self.

It's all just an illusion. So what's it matter?

So the Lama received the news from the Euros, and he received it late.

The Abu Ghraib thing hasn't been news for a long time. I wish the left/liberal media would continue to lay that news on the general public until November, every minute, every day, with talking Kerry and screeching Gore as the only other news interspersed with it. Maybe most of the Dems will even get sick of their nasty, lying media outlets.

Everybody's got an opinion. No one has a helping hand. Just advice, blame, and second-guessing. Helllllloooooo, Dalai, get a clue.

He's got a pretty good gig going on. He lives in a beautiful french estate, jets around the world in private jets, parties with the stars and lives a pretty nice lifestyle.

Buddhism is no more a satanic cult, BTW, than New Age, feminist charismatic religion masquerading as Christianity.

There's also a big difference between what Mao did and what the Lama has done. Don't pick on him. Pick on those in the US and Europe who call us Republicans "neo-cons."

"I thought there was no right and wrong in Buddhism as well as no self."

You're referring to the Buddhism of the eastern US and the left coast.

"America generally we consider a champion of liberty, justice -- these things -- so then for something such as this to happen, we regard as shocking,"

Actually, he's generally very supportive of the US, and if you read his quote, you'll realize this is just more spin and headline twisting by the Red Guardians.

BTW, the Dalai Lama was on the CIA payroll for a long time before Tibet fell.

The Dalai Lama gets his news most likely from a bunch of America-hating publications.

But he should not be jumping on their bandwagon.

I think the Dalai Lama and the Pope should stick to religion and stay out of world affairs.

He should move to the USA, so that he can get a clue, as someone else said. He's being brainwashed and spoiled by Old Europe.
