Me

If you've never watched this it is something you won't want to miss....grab a box of kleenex and put a tape in the VCR 'cause you'll want to rewatch it and rewatch it and rewatch it! If you are someone who can't wait to see this concert once a year, enjoy. If you are lucky enough to be going be prepared....if it is anything like the experience I had on the lawn of the Capitol six years ago your life will be changed....it is just too bad Ossie Davis is hosting.

WE will watch it, as we always do, and it msut be a spectaulcar experience in perosn, but the last few years have left me a little cold about the concert..it's become too touchy feel good...how can you have a Memorial Day Convert without a few Souza marches..or the USMC silent drill team..it's starting to verge on PC...

Mandatory equipment when viewing Alison Krauss sing "When You Say Nothing at All" to images of OEF and OIF families. *sniff*

I hope Generals Pace and Myers made rude comments about America hater Pelosi, whom they were sitting directly behind.

...it is just too bad Ossie Davis is hosting...and that Nancy Pelosi showed up in the crowd, beaming for the TV cameras...there no doubt to honor our troops in the field and try to help boost their morale, as she does almost daily with her gratuitous and savage attacks on their Commander-in-Chief's competence, integrity, and leadership...what a joke.....

I counted at least twice that Pelosi was on camera, but it could have been more times. Someone at PBS really likes her.

The most amazing story was told by Charles Durning, who said that on D-day where he served as a Ranger, dying troops were everywhere. He said often those who could still move would propel themselves in front of the allied combatants to shelter them from the hellacious rain of enemy fire and offer their bodies as sandbags saying, "Please use me."

Those men died to free us from fascism. Anyone who threatens that peace must face those of us who have heard Charles speak of their honor and selflessness; those who threaten us threaten the mighty spirit of those men, who on that bloody sand said I'm still not done giving, just as they were exhaling their last breath.

Durning was reportedly stabbed in the throat during the Battle of the Huertgen Forest, and almost didn't survive.

I watched the repeat Mon eve at 1 AM. Everyone did a fine job. Alison Kraus and Union Station were superb. Brad Paisley sang a fine "America the Beautiful".

I've heard Charles Durning speak before, but he was most moving last nite in this special.

Hang on PBS till the wee morning hours, they eventually rebroadcast everything at 1 and 2 AM.
