The irony is that, since the bishop offered communion to the men and women wearing the rainbow sashes and instructed his priests to do likewise, then by blocking the aisles, the ushers in effect did precisely what they objected to in their letter -- namely, they challenged the authority of their bishop.
Is not an order in favor of sacrilege immoral? Is one bound to obey an immoral order?
