If this is what I think it is, it pisses me off big time. White wash the UN oil-for-food scandal, discredit Chalabi, no democracy in Iraq, and pull out soon after elections, apparently, with our tails between our legs, and the entire Jihadist world under the impression that they won a great victory over America. Never mind the fact that Iran is on the verge of completing their Islamic bomb and their missiles will soon be intercontinental.

And never mind that the mullets, er, mullahs are avoiding civil war ONLY by the rigid suppression of the population, which grows more anti-theocratic by the week. Only a matter of time, there.

Why are you supposing that the U.S. will **leave** Iraq anytime soon? There are still numerous issues involving security and stability, and Mr. Bush addressed those points specifically this past week.

It appears that your conclusion could well be accurate. I feel if it is, we are in a far worse position as a nation in the world than before going into Iraq. I cannot fathom how understanding and knowledge could have been so wrong on the realism of Iraq and the Arab countries as a whole. I served beside Arab contingents when I was in the service. They are fierce fighters with a streak of independence that even their officers had a problem controlling.

Herding cats is an approximation of what we face in Iraq. I don't feel the UN will have much success in making the situation better. We have stirred up a genie that cannot be put back in the bottle. Expect most of the tribal grudges and conflict to come to the open. The British established most of the governing elite which have ruled up to date. The underclass has grudgingly accepted their rule up until now.
