I've often wondered why the left did not complain so much about Korea as they did VN. Could it be that they did not realize how costly in American lives that deadly war really was? They didn't even call it a war, but a "Police Action." How absurd. I lost friends there and regret to this day that the RATs refused to let us win that one either, as they surely did in VN.
Or put another way, as tragic as combat losses are for the friends and families of those killed (and for all of us really), for combat deaths in the Iraq war to equal those in WW2, they would have to continue at their current rate for another 850 years.
