I looked online at State Farm, my homeowner's insurance, and one of the exclusions reads in "What's not Covered: Damage caused by settling, deterioration, contamination, or nuclear hazard." This is an excellent point because my understanding is that a primary aim of the terrorists is to erode our economy. It would sure be devastating to most families if they lost their homes to contamination and found out they weren't insured against the loss. Most people don't know their exclusions until it's too late. Now is a good time to review all insurance policies. From what I could gather, the exclusion from general acts of terror were for commercial properties, but I invite anyone to correct me who knows better.
Honestly, that sounds right about the exclusion being placed on commercial properties. I don't think that is fair, though. Perhaps it is placed on high profile buildings, landmarks, etc.
