The stationary light in the sky would probably be right if it was coming at you (or your general vicinity).

Not sure why they would be hearing booms afterward, unless there was other debris/smaller meteorites?

I agree, there could be a trail of smaller meteors following behind.

However, the stationary light was persistent. A point-on meteor is very brief. A meteor might be in the atmosphere for only 1-2 seconds before it exits, burns up, or hits the earth.

But there have been a few recorded cases of relatively low speed, low altitude "horizontal" meteors which persisted in the atmosphere for some tens of seconds.
