I see Berg as a convert to Islam and a hard core believer. His captors however never swallowed his explanations, thinking Berg an Israeli spy, they killed one of their own.

I cannot agree, but it is evident now, with the vagaries being uncovered about Berg and his father's deep involvement with A.N.S.W.E.R. that the truth about Nick Berg lies elsewhere. Perhaps he felt assisting Michael in Iraq was a good thing and it got him murdered. Time may tell ...
