I have to say that Fox had a hint of this tone in their reporting. While they were talking about it I was thinking "Now try and tell us the U.S. handpicked this".
Actually, they probably WILL turn around and say that as things proceed.
Folks,
Bush and Powell have really thought this through. There *is* going to be a transition June 30 and it's going to be meaningful and US troops are going to minimize exposure. Casualties will plummet. Iraq will have a secular, democratic government and probably, just probably, they will ask for foreign troops to remain in the country but maybe out in the desert somewhere.
Then people will wake up and discover it's a world with a permanent US/UK military presence in the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world. France will be cut out. Russia will be cut out. China will be cut out.
It will be very very hard for anyone to look at that situation and call it anything other than a brilliant victory for Bush and Blair, and one earned by staying the course under pressure.
