Isn't this an old song? and did the lovers cry and the poets dream?

And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed

Blast from the past Friend!

That was one of my favorites during the 70's.

What kind of Richter measurement would be picked up from an underground nuke test?

Looks like there's a BIG difference and it would be pointed out by the Brits.

I remember hearing that they monitor things like this and they picked up the KURSK's explosion when that happened.

update:

TEHRAN, Iran - A 5.5-magnitude earthquake in northern Iran killed at least six people and injured eight, state-run Tehran radio reported.

Five people were killed in Mazandaran province and one in Qazvin province, the radio said.

The quake also damaged homes and buildings in both provinces.

In Kelardasht, 62 miles north of Tehran, eight people were injured and 30 buildings were damaged by the quake, which struck at 5:08 p.m. local time.

Officials at Tehran University seismological center said the quake had a magnitude of 5.5 and its epicenter was in the village of Baladeh, 43 miles northeast of Tehran, in Mazandaran province close to the Caspian Sea.

The center said there were 12 aftershocks, including one with a 4.4-magnitude.

What kind of Richter measurement would be picked up from an underground nuke test?

Not anything close to 6.2 unless they were testing a multimegaton device. The largest underground U.S. nuclear test, Cannikin on Amchitka Island in the Aleutians, had a yield of just under 5 megatons and produced energies equivalent to a 6.8-6.9 on the Richter scale.

Also, underground nuclear detonations create very unique seismic waves that can easily be distinguished from a natural earthquake. The only two nuclear tests conducted East of the Mississippi River took place near Hattiesburg, Mississippi and were part of a series to determine if it was possible to conduct a clandestine nuclear test.

They ought to reinforce those mud huts with rebar.

They can't. It's too expensive. See: Rebar, Steel Prices Continue To Soar

Do not wish the people of Iran ill. The people of Iran are pro-western-its the mullahs that are controlling them. The people of Iran will soon throww off the shackles of oppression and join the western world.

LOL! I got that done last month, and after all the drilling and digging and dog barking, I'd almost rather be here at work.
