Hollywood doesn't produce movies many in America want to see. For example, Westerns were popular for a long time. Now, you can wait a very long time to see one in a theater because NOBODY in power in Hollywood wants to make a Western. There are only a couple of people, Kevin Costner and Tom Selleck, who even try to make Westerns anymore.

They have trouble getting funding to make these movies.

The last Western Hollywood got excited about was "Unforgiven" in which there were no "good guy" characters.

Hollywood would argue that the public has little interest in seeing Westerns anymore. Open Range did not do well at the box office, despite good reviews.
