Don't know about additives, but here's a list of ingredients.
In reality, there are 599 ingredients in a cigarette.
Here are just some of those 599 .
Particularly GROSS ingredients:
-Tar: This ingredient, which gives cigarettes flavor, is the same thick black substance used to pave roads and driveways.
There is no "Tar", ie asphaltic resin, a petroleum byproduct, in cigarettes. The "Tar" that is listed on the cigarette pack is a combustion by-product of the tobacco itself. Given that the article starts with this whopper, the rest of it should be taken with a great big pinch of salt.
In fact the great majority of the "ingredients" mentioned are products of the combustion of the chemical constituents of the tobacco itself, so that even if tobacco was a food item they would not be listed. Most of them are produced in only the tiniest of amounts. Burning leaves outdoors can produce many of the same organic compounds.
Some of the things listed ARE actual artificial additives used in the production of cigarettes, at least in the US. Canadian regulations do not allow additives to the tobacco.
Anyway, needless to say that tobacco SMOKE does indeed contain many nasty substances, but the article you printed is full of mistruths and half-truths calculated to create an emotional response. As a smoker I'll concede that tobacco smoke is full of things that aren't particularly good for you, but this is not a good article to use to make the point if you want to be taken seriously.
Good points. Thanks.
