One of the things that bothers me about this entire episode is that Kobe got the kind of legal representation which every criminal defendant should get but that only 1% do get. If every criminal defendant got first class representation of the calibre of Pamela Mackay (about whom I have nothing but superlative opinions), then we would have markedly less criminal convictions.
I am very uncomfortable with the fact that we are sending people to prison because they cannot afford the type of defense that Kobe got. Justice should not be this wealth-related.

Yeah. Well I find it disturbing too. Let that be a lesson to you. Put some money aside for that day or you might end up with a public defender.
Most defendants can't afford to pay the investigators needed to get to do their own investigation and instead are forced to rely on the states investigation. (ie the Police)
even if they can afford good legal representation.
