The comments last week from entertainer Bill Cosby beseeching blacks to stop blaming whites for their problems continue to serve as talk-show fodder and pundit subject matter.
Radio hosts and columnists have ranted and raved about the merits and downsides of the comments and show no sign of relenting.

Perhaps there's a reason for that. I have a number of black friends, and I think most of them are reviled at the "black subculture" a few African-Americans have been trying to procreate lately.
Does discrimination still happen against some blacks?
Yes.
Do blacks live disproportionately in poverty?
Yes.
Does an average black child have the same opportunities for advancement as the average while child?
No.
Do the above facts take away all accountability for bad personal choices made by many blacks today?
No...!
It can be very difficult to break the cycle of poverty and broken families in generation after generation, but until there is an honest acceptance of considerable responsibility within the black community itself, there will not be progress and the problems will only continue. Those stuck in victim status will continue to see themselves as helpless and unable to take constructive action on their own, and the cycle will continue with larger and larger successive generations.
Many blacks fear the comments from Mr. Cosby, a known supporter of Democratic causes, will be used to further the assertions of conservatives that many of the problems in the black community are, indeed, self-inflicted.
Mr. Shaw and the others are more worried about losing their victim status than fixing the problems. Most of the problems are self-inflicted nowadays but if they won't admit it, they can't attempt to change it. Thank you Mr. Cosby for telling them the truth.
Cosby is right. Time to clean out their own backyard.

The mantra of 400 years of oppression has run out of gas. Even if whitey has an attitude and an agenda how does that translate into 70% illegitimacy, a contempt for education downtown and rampant B on B crime. Cosby knows it. And so do a growing number of educated Blacks. This "boo hoo I'm a victim of racism so take care of me Massa' Uncle Sam" is really getting old and useless.

As everybody in that room will go to vote for John Kerry. Too many blacks are making too much money by keeping blacks generally stoopid.. Cosby is a leftist outright himself. A stopped clock is correct twice a day. There are blacks that are neither stupid or leftist. But mostly they were not in that room. Any black conservative pays a price for being a conservative.
I agree with your post. I realize these people don't have a voice in the the black political structure but these people do have a voice in the voting booth. I'm just wondering why they don't use it? 95% vote Democrat, that's unbelievable!

Absolutely aimed at a black audience.
I gave a motivational workshop for welfare to work participants yesterday at their new jobs and the response was terrific.
Blacks do not want to remain on the fringes of society making do with whatever the media, current culture, and politicians deem is their proper place. And, I have to tell you that what I said was hard to hear regarding behavior, professionalism on the job, attitude and yes, looking in people's faces when speaking correctly, using English well.
They aren't victims. They aren't incapable. They aren't what the videos and Hollywood proclaim them. They are people learning that they are the mainstream.
To say that "blacks" have to solve this problem is accurate in the sense that it is their problem to solve. Ultimately the responsibility for solving behavioral problems must fall upon the person who has the problem. No one else can do it for you.
Actually its a black man's problem and a white man's burdon. So, Who is responsible. All of us as Americans.
When you look at unemployment figures, blacks are not playing the race card either. Black unemployment is twice the national average. And this is considering most jobs are in the service industry where you may find many of the unskilled, uneducated black workers. And keep in mind this number is reported from people that actively seek employment every week.

I don't buy the idea of collective resonsibility for what is essentially a personal behavioral problem. The liberal left seems to be quite enamoured of the concept, but I think it deprecates the notion of personal responsibility.
Do you agree with the war on terror? Certain Moslem's personal decision to kill based on Allah,and this is truly American's burden. So, in America if a population chooses to live a certain way, even if your answer is "put them all in jail", aren't you, as a tax payer, going to have to help build jails and supply police department's to keep you safe? Can you truly have what is rightly yours? Can you eat steak and ride in your your hard earned nice car while other try to deny you that privilege? I didn't say take charge and work it out for them. But doesn't this cause some obstacles?
