I'm really not much of a country music fan, but I bet a song with a title like that drives the liberal elitists in Mass. pucker up.

I'm a huge country music fan, unfortunately I'm an even larger poltical talk radio fan. I too would have liked to see the faces of the elite when that award was announced.

I like country music but modern country music by and large does not cut it with me. It's too packaged and it's marketed primarily towards women. Just look at the album covers of current country recording artists. All the male artists are featured on the cover in "hunky" poses. Any self-respecting man would be embarrassed to buy such an album. A lot of this current country stuff is saccharine-sweet. Some of the top country songs today make the 70s crossover ballads of Kenny Rogers sound like Nine Inch Nails by comparison.
Not that every modern country song is bad. Dierks Bentley had a kick-ass hit last year with "What Was I Thinking" but again, I can't buy the album because of the "hunky" pose on the album cover. I'd feel like a queer buying it. The record companies really ought to get a clue. They've alienated the male consumer.

I haven't seen it yet, but let me guess: Brooks & Dunn, the awful, the syrupy McGraw/Hill Couple, the confused feminist Martina, Lifetime Achievement Award to someone nearly forgotten and now dying of some disease (if it's only the disease of irrelevancy), Horizon Awards to some already nearly forgotten One Hit Wonders, etc, etc...

Ian Tyson is the man.
Very much the "western" part of country/western, he is.

For some reason I didn't even think that was supposed to be a country tune -- wasn't it part of Travis' shift to Christian pop music?

We need Country Raspie Awards, folks, to "reward" all that assembly line commercial "country" crap coming out of LA and Nashville. Or, wait, these are in effect the Raspie Awards! Where are Billy Joe Shaver, Guy Clarke, Jim Lauderdale, the Red Meat, Hadacol, and so on?
