Still, Nick's father has lost all credibility with me, and his use of Nick as the cause-belli to advance his own twisted agenda is pitiful.

I think this comment hits the nail on the head. The Utopian concept of many leftist's is that if we would stop being such bullies and reach out and let the terrorists know we love them, all would be well in the world. This father's views seem to be eerily similar.
