Dear General Karpinsky:

Will you please fall on your sword? Do you not get it that it is your duty here to end this? Somebody with a star on the lapel has to go down; you're it.

It's not even wrong that you're it because you were it. It really did happen on your watch. And you are, after all, ma'am, a general officer. In the name of all that is right and holy, do your troops, and the rest of the troops that are not yours, and the entire United States military -- and indeed the entire United States -- a big favor. Do your duty. Fall on your sword.

And then STFU.

Consider it a hand grenade that has rolled into the tent. "It's not my hand grenade" doesn't cut it. Fall on the damned thing. It's your job.

Hell, I got my a$$ chewed out good for an incident involving my Marines--and I wasn't even there, damn it!

The story: my Marines, on their own time, went to a shooting range in Savannah, Jawjuh with personal weapons and ammo. They had a bunch of leftover rounds as they rode back to MCAS Beaufort.

Some jackass fired at a deer across the highway, directly over the truck. My Marines stopped, jumped out, and began laying down suppression fire on the tree line. The cops found over 300 spent cartridges on the road.

After the base CO chewed me out, he chewed my Marines out for a while, then told me to jump in.

My comment: "Let me get this straight...we have Marines firing over 300 rounds at the bad guy, and not one of you morons could actually hit the worthless bastard?"

I thought the CO was going to explode, but then he realized that I had a valid point (c8
