Thanks, Coroner. And I just found the following in the Detroit Press from last April:

***Shabad Ahmed, the cityís first Muslim City Council member, estimates that Hamtramckís population is now more than one-third Muslim.***

We should just throw them outta this country, and shut down their terrorist indoctrination and recruitment centers.

One question for you. Have you heard the call to prayer. It doesn't stop at the call. It's the WHOLE service....and VERY loud. Like I said, lived in it for a year and it's not very pleasant.

I live by a church, its bells are loud as hell, and I work a swing shift. How do i get one of these petitions going to shutdown this racket?

You ain't heard nothing til you've heard the unending babble of 5 times a day call to prayer. Try it once and you'll actually learn to appreciate those church bells.

I wonder if the ACLU will get involved to stop this crime against tolerance and diversity. (barf)

I am so fed up with these sub human, death worshiping colonists ... they are determined to kill or convert us and they will do it unless we remove them as a threat to us.

They are culturally and physically, blood-mad, genocidal invaders ... nothing less.

I would have no problem hearing the call to prayer, if I was visiting that community.

Easy to say when you have a means of escape because you are "visiting". The people who own a home in the area will experience a significant loss of property value. Being awakened every morning by the amplified yowling with no means of stopping it is a simple act of "taking property" without just compensation. Every property owner within earshot of the amplified yowling should sue the hell out of the city for loss of property value. The city purportedly rolled over because they were afraid of an expensive lawsuit if they did not cave on the request. Five or ten thousand individual lawsuits for $50,000 or so would bankrupt them in legal fees.

I was exposed to the "call to prayer" for a solid week while working in Izmir, Turkey. You can't sleep through the damn yowling even within the confines of a very expensive room in the Hilton hotel.

can the parish still ring its bell on Sunday? ... can you play Van Halen in your car? ... can you belch in public? ... will this silence the cell phone queen in line in front of you in the A&P?

Don't know, but no one need be awakened at 6am. with that loudspeaker shrieking a call to prayer. After that, the calls go out 4 more times each and everyday! If I wanted to get up at 6am, I'd set the alarm for that hour.

We have rights too. We shouldn't have to put up with that daily intrusion.

You got it. Lest we prevent people from exercising their freedom of religion. Let them do as some of our more extreme religions...rant and rave INSIDE the church halls. The vocal minority is once again trying to impose their way on the majority. The city council needs to grow some kahunas and stand by their original decision.

Well, I surely wouldn't want to listen to it. Perhaps I don't thoroughly understand the city council. Were the moslems allowed a variance to a noise ordinance? If so, vote down the variance. If there is no noise ordinance, one will need to be carefully crafted to muffle the howlers without inviting the ACLU, or outlawing car stereos. I'm not fully familiar with the noise ordinance in my county, but I do know it is a violation if your stereo can be heard (at all!) at your property line. It seems to be only enforced when there are a lot of complaints.

Yes, the City Council amended the noise ordinance just for the Muslims. I'm sure everyone else still has to obey it. Isn't that special?

You can listen to various calls to prayer here, if you want to see exactly what the Hamtamck city council proposes to inflict on everybody:

http://www.islamonline.net/English/eid/1423/topic08.shtml

Scroll all the way down to the bottom for "Listen to Adhan in Sweet Voices" ("adhan" = call to prayer). There's quite a variety. Some are a minute and a half, some are seven minutes. The first offering is by the former Cat Stevens. The "ahdan from Los Angeles" and the "ahdan in a Sweet Voice" are probably good examples of likely worst-case scenarios.
