I think #3 would be ignored or doubted by the press
I believe events since 9/11 support your conclusion.
I think 4 and 5 could elect Kerry
I see that for #4. They could ridicule Bush as a Chicken Little President. How would #5 (successful attack on London) help Kerry?
#3 might elect him too
I don't know how that could help Kerry, but I agree with your first point that it would be a back-page story for the press. Like the dirty bombs seized in NY harbor.

Aren't they though, prairie? I used to be able to distinguish between them but lately...
Your comment has convinced me I must re-read Steven Emerson's excellent book "American Jihad" as I cannot remember if he found out whether journalists had infiltrated the ranks, so to speak.

"If thousands more Americans were killed by Islamic terrorists, then our reaction might be stronger than even we would bring ourselves to imagine mow. We might do things the morality or necessity of which we would spend the next century debating among ourselves and with the Europeans. But we would be alive to debate these matters and wonder about the fate of our eternal souls when we die of natural causes after long lives."
I agree.
However, what if the terrorists from the "Religion of Peace" Cult of Death decide to launch a series of simultaneous small scale attacks (i.e. coordinated homicode bombers)? The number of lives lost would likely be small by comparison of 9/11, but the "terror" inflicted on the average citizen could be higher. If this were to happen, and I hate to say this, but I think the Libs/Dems/Socialists would all be screaming that it's the President's fault, he should of done more, he did too much, blah blah blah. In this scenario, our reaction would probably be tempered and the politicizing of the attack(s) would begin by the Left.
Personally, I hope I'm wrong and we Americans unite and rise to defeat the Islamofascist movement once and for all. The Left never got the memo, but the Third World War began on 9/11/01.

This summer, the well dressed patriot will be carrying a cell phone, digital camera and concealed weapon.I don't own any of those items, sigh. I thank God for folks who will be so well-dressed.

But wait! Shouldn't we all be more interested in hearing about what happened in Abu Graib for about the 1,756,823rd time rather than this? LOL! While our borders look like the Boston Marathon, with millions flooding into our country from God knows where.
What lunacy!

I don't mind at all.
Another freeper reminded me that if my computer goes down, you will lose those pictures! So if you really like them, save them on your hard drive.
I stole the pictures from other freepers and can't remember how to save onto the hard drive but must learn...

Yes, they walk in the country every day and they are protected by our laws. Michael Moore will make another crockumentary after the next attack.

let's not play into the hands of those who want to suspend the constitution - Hillary Clinton may want that power someday, want to let her use it?
If Wall Street is hit by a WMD, I see no reason for the constitution to be suspended in Texas or Florida or Missouri.
To: A Jovial Cad
I SO hate terrorists.
This probably will spook some into not going and doing their summer plans.
And if something does happen, the newswhores will be all over it smugly shoving it in our faces.
I hope the homeland security guys pay attention and stop doing stupid stuff like letting several arabic guys go while having elderly travelers in for questioning.

#4 is the most likely scenario - and the one that poses the biggest risk for Bush politically.
I don't know how you assign probabilities when people are trying to attack you. Human will and ingenuity can overcome security in a country like this. How secure is Disney World, LA, or Dollywood? Could the Chicago water supply be poisoned?

Oh my gosh. They aren't Mexican and are just crossing into our country? I don't like the sounds of that at all.
Definitely going online with our library to reserve Emerson's book again...

The report states a chemical may be used against our country.

Clint, I always heard about all the militia we have living "in the hills." Well! Where the hell ARE they! LOL! Um. In the hills still? I dunno. But IMHO I don't think the "militia in the hills" will count for much.
The thing that will count are the reactions of everyday Americans. It might not be a vast majority that stands up, but in the right circumstances enough will. I'm not really a hot-head --I only play one on FR-- but from various conversations with various people (not a scientific sampling!) since 9/11 I think maybe even I would be surprised. (I confess I was at the response to 9/11...)
