lou holtz really was bloodthirsty both on and off the field
Lou Holtz is a fine man. Some years ago, I saw Holtz attending Mass at the cathedral here in Cleveland on a holy day of obligation that fell during the week--I think All Saints' Day, but I'm not sure. Anyway, he was there at Mass when he was travelling alone in a strange city, on a day when many Catholics can't seem to find their way to their own parishes.
After Mass, I spoke with Holtz and told him my Dad was a huge fan. There was nothing for Holtz to autograph, but I gave him my Dad's name and address. Holtz then went back to his hotel room, autographed something for my Dad, and mailed it to him. There was absolutely nothing arrogant or pretentious about Lou, and, of course, Notre Dame hasn't had a coach of his caliber since he left.
Holtz will be toast after the Gamecocks go 4-8 this year.
Gee....a liberal university employee.....who'd a thunk it? Yes folks, even big time college football coaches have to answer to their liberal collegues in academia.
Say it isn't so, Granny Clampet.
