Actually, I think broadcasting the Apostles Creed would be the nearest equivalent.

You're probably right.

I always thought Allah must be a rather puny third-rate God (if he could even be considered a god at all), as he's so darned insecure-- has to be prayed to 5 times a day-- women are subserviant to men ... etc. Makings of a boy's only death cult. Not very advanced or enlightened.

You have to wonder about a diety who wants to be worshipped as a black rock. Who selected the Arabs as his Chosen People and an illiterate middle-aged pedophile as his Prophet. I mean, really, did the world need another bloodthirsty religion in the 7th century? If one reads the history of the islamic conquest in the 7-9th centuries, it is clear that they succeeded because they were ruthless butchers and their opponents were bitterly divided amongst themselves: each like Hitler's opponents who thought they could use him, busily making deals with the attacking Mussulmen to take out their Christian rivals. Not a time that heaps glory on Christianity's history. One wonders what would have happened had the Bedouins run up against Rome, or even Greece or Egypt, at the height of their powers. Methinks that today Allah the Arabian Moon God would be no better known than Marduk or (more likely given Mahomet was illiterate) some aboriginal African totem.
