Great Chicago Fire Case Reopened

In a startling revelation Monday, the Great Chicago Fire case has been reopened. Judiciary sources in Chicago told Reuters on Friday that the results from the initial investigation proved inconclusive. New evidence suggests there was more to the fire than originally thought. A new investigation conducted by CBS's 60 Minutes turned up new evidence that Halliburton executives may have been in the area shortly before the fire. "This demonstrates once again the Bush administration's attempts to stifle the truth from the American people", proclaimed Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. Senator John Kerry, speaking at a fund-raiser for the relatives of Sheik Ahmed Yassin, praised the reopening of the case, saying, "If George Bush had not been so preoccupied with Iraq, this fire would have never started in the first place. Instead of searching for facts, this administration and its Republican attack machine have joined together to blame an innocent and defenseless cow." Kerry went on to say, instead of isolating America, he would have done more to reach out to the international community to form a broad coalition for fire-prevention. Kerry later went on to state "I had originally voted for the fire before I voted against it." When ask to clarify what in the world he was talking about, Kerry snapped at the reporter proclaiming the reporter had no right to question his patriotism and reminded the reporter that he served in Viet Nam. According to some experts, conditions for a fire were ripe given the dry summer and the careless way the city had been maintained and managed in 1871. Some are demanding that President Bush testify everything he knew about the fire before it happened. "The American public wants answers to these questions. He ought to testify. He ought to testify under oath, and the fact that he has yet to respond to these charges proves his guilt" Terry McAuliffe, the Democratic Party chairman, said Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America." A bi-partisian commission led by the impartial Senator from Massachusetts Edward Kennedy has been organized to lead the investigation of the fire. "So far, it has become clear to us that this administration has lied to the American people about who caused the fire, and we believe the plan to start this fire originated at a ranch in Texas." According to statistics from the Chicago Fire Department, over 120 trees may have burned to the ground during the event. "Once again, this shows the Bush administration's flagrant disregard for the environment." said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, "The incompetence and arrogance of this administration has once again destroyed one of nature's most precious gift, trees." Despite public outrage, President Bush has yet to apologize for the fire.
