Dear FReeper,

Thought you'd be interested to know that the Republican National Convention and MTV are inviting adults between the ages of 18 and 24 from across the country to enter "Stand Up and Holla!," an essay contest in which the winner may appear during one of the prime-time evening sessions at the 2004 Republican National Convention.

To apply for "Stand Up and Holla!" eligible young adults must submit an essay no longer than 300 words to the Republican National Convention website at
www.2004nycgop.org answering this question:  Why is the President's call to community service important and how have you demonstrated it?

The deadline for contest submissions is June 15, 2004. The Convention will spearhead a selection committee to find 10 finalists.  Once these individuals are selected, the public will be able to vote for each finalist based on a short taped segment. Voting will be available on the Republican Convention website, the RNC's voter registration vehicle, "Reggie the Rig," and MTV.com. The winner will be announced on MTV's Total Request Live.

Sincerely,

Jordan Sekulow

This 20 year old would happily do it, but I know two things.

1) There's no such thing as a good essay that's only 300 words.

2) In between school and work, I have no time.

Good luck to others who can participate, though!

27? me too, don't worry, 18-24 is just a marketing demographic.

Same here -- I'm gonna be 29 in a week. It's crazy! I'm not supposed to be this old!

This would, IMHO, be the winning essay, were it submitted...

"HI!, I just turned 18, I'm in my second week at Parris Island. can't write more, cause my Gunny will tear me a new one if I don't hit the rack ASAP. BUSH is the man....the grunts love him and will follow him to hell and back..I wanna do my "community service" in Bagdad, Damascus, and other garden spots..Semper Fi!!
