PETERSON TRIAL
Jury selection enters into its final stretch Thursday culminates thinning of prospects from pool of 1,500

It's called the big spin or the shootout. One prosecutor calls it the legal equivalent of the dating show "Elimidate."
But whatever it's called, the final round of jury selection can be as crucial and nerve-racking as waiting for a verdict.
"This is everything. You can't overemphasize it," said former San Francisco prosecutor and Fox News legal analyst Jim Hammer. "If you screw up, make just one mistake, you can lose your whole case." ..............

REDWOOD CITY -- Scott Peterson is one step away from knowing who will decide his fate. The second phase of jury selection in his double-murder trial ended Thursday, with 76 people advancing.
Attorneys are scheduled to cull 12 jurors and six alternates from that group Thursday to decide whether Peterson murdered his wife, Laci, and unborn son, Conner.
If the jury convicts Peterson on all counts, the same group will determine if he should be executed or sentenced to life in prison without parole. Opening statements in the trial are set for June 1.
"We're going to go with the 76," Judge Alfred Delucchi announced at the close of Thursday's session. "Hopefully, we'll have enough."
The decision to cease the individual questioning of jurors -- the middle phase of the selection process -- came during a closed-door session between the judge and attorneys at the end of an unsteady day in court.........

Pool of Potential Peterson Jurors is Finally Assembled
Pool of Potential Peterson Jurors is Finally Assembled
After more than 1,500 San Mateo County residents were interviewed during 11 weeks in the courtroom, the pool of pre-qualified potential jurors for the double murder trial of Scott Peterson is finally complete.
Now it will be up to Judge Alfred Delucchi and attorneys on both sides of the case to narrow the 76-member panel down to 12 jurors and six alternates. That process will get underway on May 27. Each side will have 26 pre-emptory challenges, which allow attorneys to dismiss potential jurors without explanation.
Opening statements in the trial, which was originally scheduled to begin May 17, were delayed to allow for more time to question potential jurors. The trial is now expected to get underway on June 1.

FOX NEWS - ALL LACI/KOBE/OJ/JACKO/MARTHA, ALL THE TIME!
And now, in this week's exciting gavel-to-gavel coverage of gripping courtroom drama:
- The judge showed his right ear, never before revealed to the cameras;
- The prosecutor scratched his buttocks as she talked about her post-trial book deal;
- Juror #8 broke wind during the defense deposition; and
- The defense attorney rapped his way into the popular lexicon!
Who is Scott Petersaon? Any relation to that Vietnam Vet running for president?
I will defend your right to be whatever you claim to be, and I will stop you from trampling that self-same right others share with you;
If you are not interested in the Peterson trial that is acceptable with those of us that are. I believe that you grasp the concept that Free Republic is an open forum, no one forces anyone to view or participate on any given thread. So instead of making fun of those of us interested in the justice of Laci and Conner, just pass this thread by and move on to one that does intrest you.

Don't know how the double post came about, I guess that it needed to be said twice.
Good morning. Let's hope this trial starts soon.
My point is not against the trial itself. Rather, it's the media feeding frenzy, especially in Fox's case, that these sideshows are covered to the exclusion of all else. Law as entertainment, and paparazzi prosecutors.
So, why the personal attack? Did I attack you? I don't recall doing so. I'm sorry you're so easily torqued - here's some ice...
no one forces anyone to view or participate on any given thread.
And no one silences me, either...
But is he ready for his close-up, Mr. De Mille?
Show me where I made fun of you personally. Show me where I called you out by name. You can't, because I did not.
So, on those bases, I'm a hypocrite, eh? Someone who defends your right to mouth off disrespectfully at a soldier? Someone who challenges you to make a logical statement instead of personal insults, like any DU Troll? MY bona fides are out for all to see - where are YOURS?
Confirmed bachelor.
Don't I wish...
I normally respect your posts but this is over the top. There is no reason to post such a sarcastic bunch of drivel. If you are not interested in an article, just go to another.
This discussion needs to be postponed until I get back from work.
