E.L. Doctorow, one of the most celebrated writers in America, was nearly booed off the stage at Hofstra University Sunday when he gave a commencement address lambasting President George W. Bush and effectively calling him a liar.
Booing that came mainly from the crowd in the stands became so intense that Doctorow stopped speaking at one point, showing no emotion as he stood silently and listened to the jeers. Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz intervened, and called on the audience to allow him to finish. He did, although some booing persisted.
Doctorow, who spent virtually all of his 20-minute address in Hempstead criticizing Bush, told the crowd that like himself the president is a storyteller. But "sadly they are not good stories this president tells," he said. "They are not good stories because they are not true." That line provoked the first boos, along with scattered cheers.

LOL! Today, firebrand and I heckled Anthony Weiner when he passed by us in the Salute to Israel Parade. At these events, he *always* has an aide carrying a big sign with his name and saying that he supports whatever the cause or event is. And for some reason, something came over me and I just yelled out: "Hey, who is that guy? What's his name?"
These arrogant fu***** have a form of Tourette's syndrome where they feel compelled to preach and talk down. They just can't shut up and conduct themselves with some grace. I'm sick of 'em all.
nice pics btw
You should have been there!
had to work today :)
"I booed Schumer at Stony Brook then walked around the campus till he finished "
Did Schumer speak at SB? Wish I could have joined you. I'm a grad from when the bridge still went nowhere (an inside comment that only SB'ers will understand).
Hehehe yeah the Bridge is still going nowhere AND one year part of the Union crumbled and fell on a student. Everyone was wishing we were under the doorway *LOL* Yeah it was rich listering to Schumer's canned speech in ninety degree blazing heat.
I'm having a REALLY hard time adjusting to the 21st Century; really, I am!
Glad you avoided the union collapse. I thought the bridge now made a 90 degree turn left, then another quick 90 degree turn right into the fine arts area.

What a bozo.
Parents and students need to re-assert financial control. Parents with the gold make the rules.
It sounds like the left is no longer using comencement speakers to show mere ideas, they are using them as an opportunity for captive audience rants.
