FROM THE PULPIT: REV. ALAN HANDMAN ... Salvation, evil are bipartisan
Lewiston Morning Tribune | May 22, 2004 | REV. ALAN HANDMAN

I was recently sent a campaign finance request.

It was coupled with a lovely photo of the first couple, with thanks for my support beautifully embossed beneath in gold letters followed by a pitch for a few bucks. Now getting a campaign appeal is certainly no surprise in an election year.

What did surprise me is how I, a registered and quite active Democrat who has never voted GOP in my life, ended up on the GOP friends list.

It turns out that the Bush fund-raising team decided my politics based on my ministerial calling. Being a Christian minister apparently makes one an honorary Republican. While I would agree that my faith guides my vote, I would disagree that one can know a citizen's vote based on their faith. I would like to address this presumption because it is a great and poisonous distortion of reality. God does not take sides in America's culture war.

"God sent the Son into the world that the world might be saved through him." (John 3:17) "The world" is more expansive than the American GOP and its supporters, many of whom are by no means spiritual but quite materialistic.

Furthermore, the world has already elected its chosen official. I am not speaking of any earthly president, king or dictator. I speak of one the scriptures call "the ruler of this world" (John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11).

Humankind chose Satan as its leader from the beginning of history -- and he finds a way to appeal to everyone. To the conservative, Satan becomes conservative.

For the liberal, he becomes liberal. Every which way we lean, he will lean with us until we fall to our destruction. He is for anything that divides, makes for arguments, exalts human pride and distracts us from the love of Christ. His influence is seen in the policies of both major parties, and in all things human.

The good news is that the love of God is as all-embracing, unbiased and universal as Satan's evil. We cannot know believers by their politics, nor can we know them by their self-designations.

How can we know them? "By their fruits ye shall know them: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness. " (Galatians 5:22)

No political party has a monopoly on these qualities. And evil is bipartisan as well.

Hadman is minister of the Orchards Christian Church in Lewiston.

As hillary's idol once professed:

E. Both Capitalism and Judaeo-Christian culture must be destroyed before a Communist revolution can succeed

Religious sentiment cannot be destroyed through legislation, as Lenin believed, but must be redirected from the divine to the state

---Terror will only drive Religion underground
---Religion will then reemerge when Leninism fails
---So Religion must be destroyed in the minds of men

Infiltrate religious academies and become priests and clergymen

---Subtly promote heresy within religious organizations
---Infiltrators must act so as to discredit the church

------Cause financial and sexual scandals
------See that this is given a high profile in the news
------Like-minded infiltrators in the media will cooperate

---Once religion is discredited from within, continuously promote the idea that only the state can solve the problems that have been traditionally brought before the church

.....Antonio Gramsci

What's wrong with his letter is that it is utterly empty of content. It literally says nothing, and attributes the same vapidness to God.

God is opposed to murdering little babies in the womb. Voting for people who favor murdering little babies is what Satan most wants people to do in the voting booth.

Rev. Gregory Groover (Charles Street AME Church) doesn't agree ...

"Kerry, a Massachusetts senator, did not speak to the congregation at Charles Street AME Church, but the Rev. Gregory Groover recognized him from the pulpit as "the next president of the United States."

"We're thankful that there's going to be a revolution in this country," Groover said. "A new day has occurred, a new movement. And so we praise God for the president. And we say God, bring him on."

Kerry visits Black Church after surgery; Pastor taunts Bush and says "Bring him on"
