Deadly Paris Airport roof collapse
PARIS, France -- At least five people were killed and three others injured when a massive section of a vaulted ceiling collapsed at a new passenger terminal at Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport, officials said.
Slabs of concrete and metal came crashing down from the ceiling onto a seated waiting area at about 7 a.m. Sunday (0500 GMT/1 a.m. ET).
Part of the raised terminal structure then collapsed onto airport service vehicles underneath.
The collapse left a hole 50 meters (yards) by 30 meters in the long, tunnel-like building.
"It's like a scene after an earthquake," one firefighter said.
Officials said there was nothing to indicate a terrorist attack.

That design looks flawed to begin with. Too much/less arch? Looks too wide. I'm sure they engineered it but it still looks wrong. I get rid of hoses that flat because they always collapse./ Putting away my hindsight vision monitor.
French engineering at its best...
Sure looks that way. There's absolutely no lateral bracing to support a sprung arch like that. Everything is supported by stressing the sides in bending.
"One airport director had called Terminal 2E, with its arched roof and sleek design, the "pride of the airport."
The terminal was inaugurated June 25,(2003) nearly a month behind schedule because of construction problems."
CDG Airport pong
(let's try that again)
CDG Airport pong
So do I. And I've only changed planes there one trip, both ways. Rude workers, nothing was open, and the bare concrete
was simply - damp.
In a related story, Michael Moore was seen on the terminal shortly before it's collaps while returning from Cannes.
Oh, come now. Fresnel, Eiffel, ...
Could have been the government procurement of materials, the stuff made in the month of August, or it was the only source for kickbacks
since Saddam and the "Oil for Food" money was gone.
DeGaulle airport should be renameed "We Surrender" Airport.
Keep in mind....Engineers dont make mistakes...They make revisions!.....and as for French engineering...Im guessing they couldnt pour p*ss out of a boot if the directions were on the heel...Its the French mindset...
I guess the French engineeres didn't use enough elmer's glue on that structure.
Paris' Capitulation Disasters Granted Airport collapsulates.
Leave it to the french to be the first to create "self inflicted" terrorism. Even their buildings surrender.
Ping to thread about French Airport arch collapse.
Check out teh article, then look at the image in post #2.
Something isn't right with that arch, it doesn't seem to have enough support to it to make it a sane design.
Much like the French Aircraft carrier..
I'll be number four.
Urine smell? Check.
Rude workers? Check.
I'll add, I didn't much like the endless trail of motorized habitrails one must ride to get to the gate, only to sit in those horrid plastic chairs, like some half-assed, third-world bus station.
