We can debate Zinni's judgment on Yemen till cows come home (Bush thought highly of him -- appointed him midEast envoy), but it's interesting that the Zinni-bashers don't seem to want us to notice that Schwarzkopf agreed with Zinni that invading Iraq was a mistake. I haven't seen any posts tearing into Schwarzkopf ... yet. Now that I've mentioned him, except some knees to jerk and some posts to start calling himi names. (They can't call him a liberal Democrat, because he campaigned hard for Bush. And I'd like to see them call Stormin Norman an incompetent general - remember a little victory called Desert Storm?)

Another Zinni fan. You finally remembered his infamous decisions that results in the deaths of our fine sailors. And you just played dumb about it before.

Nothing to debate there Chamberlainbuff, Zinni is a dangerous and political arse.

Incompetent? No. In fact, Schwarzkopf did voice some reservations publicly in March of last year...things like giving the U.N. more time. But since the real deal has happened the good general hasn't voiced any concerns or objections.

Does this sound familiar?

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/21/60minutes/main618896.shtml

"Zinni is talking about a group of policymakers within the administration known as "the neo-conservatives" who saw the invasion of Iraq as a way to stabilize American interests in the region and strengthen the position of Israel. They include Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz; Undersecretary of Defense Douglas Feith; Former Defense Policy Board member Richard Perle; National Security Council member Eliot Abrams; and Vice President Cheney's chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby."

"Zinni believes they are political ideologues who have hijacked American policy in Iraq."

?I think it's the worst kept secret in Washington. That everybody - everybody I talk to in Washington has known and fully knows what their agenda was and what they were trying to do,? says Zinni. "

?And one article, because I mentioned the neo-conservatives who describe themselves as neo-conservatives, I was called anti-Semitic. I mean, you know, unbelievable that that's the kind of personal attacks that are run when you criticize a strategy and those who propose it. I certainly didn't criticize who they were. I certainly don't know what their ethnic religious backgrounds are. And I'm not interested.?

Have you been accused of being "anti-Semitic" yet, or told you hate the "Jooos"?

Where have these brain-dead propagandists come from?

As I said before, last I heard Schwarzkopf was gearing up to help in Bush's reelcetion bid. Have you heard otherwise? If so, can I have a link?

Oh come now. Desert Storm was not exactly the Battle of the Bulge. The world's most power military force (over 500,000 in theater plus tens of thousands of allies) defeated a fourth rate military force that was no match in any respect. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. Twas not a great victory or great generalship.
