I read a thread made about a year ago, where hollywood celebrities were being called all kinds of names because they opposed the USELESS Irar war. Why useless, read THIS :
SIX THOUSAND civilians in Africa die EVERYDAY due to AIDS, poverty and hunger. Let's see, 3000 people died on the day of the 9/11 crash. TWICE the number of people die EVERYDAY in Africa because of lack of food and amenities. As far as I know, the situation in Africa, is in order of 10000000000000 times worse than in Iraq. Infact, although a larger section of Iraq lives in poverty, it is,believe it or not,one of the economically BETTER developed countries in Asia. People in most countries in Asia, particularly in parts of South East Asia, and far eastern asia live in just ABJECT and UNSPEAKABLY BAD poverty, it has to be seen to be believed. However, this is nothing compared to the situation in Central Africa, where living conditions approach the ZENITH. The average person in Iraq can afford to eat no more than two small meals a day. While families in these parts of Africa have to sometimes contend with one meal in THREE days!!!
And you talk about the brutality of Saddam? FYI , last year in a state called "Guajarat" in India(a country with which the US claims to have "strong relations" with, right now) over 20,000 muslims were killed by DEMOCRATICALLY elected leaders in span of THREE days. That's more than what Saddam killed in the last decade of his regime! And what about Pol Pot, under whose regime ONE million Cambodians mercilessly lost their lives? Did USA do ANYTHING about him? And in countries like Sierra Leone and Uganda, the brutality inflicted on people is such, it could make you faint. Atleast people in Iraq have some kind of administration, even be it a dictatorial regime that quells freedom of expression. However, in these parts of Africa, there IS no solid form of administration at all. Farmers grow crops, and host of military gangs simply come to the village and steal the crops. These farmers can do NOTHING about it. These military gangs also take about 50% of the women in every village they go, as sexual slaves. Any man who objects to his wife or daughter being captured has his limbs cut off. And to date, over 30,000 men in Africa have had their limbs chopped off by these gangs.
YOU look at these facts and tell me who needs liberation more? The Africans or Iraqis? If the American Government had ANY intention of helping people in the world, it would have "liberated" the people in central africa or south-far-eastern asia first! Please! Iraq seems like HEAVEN in front of these nations! Anyone who says that Iraq needed liberation is IRRESPONSIBLE, as he is NOT caring for people who need the help of the US MUCH MUCH more!! ------------------------------------------------ So we had ONE WTC attack which destroyed 3000 lives. Guess what?!?! Two tragedies equivalent to the WTC attacks happen in parts of the world EVERYDAY!!
You people REALLY REALLY do not know what is going on in the rest of the world. What these people are saying is : If the money spent on warfare is used to FEED people across the world, MANY MANY MANY more lives can be saved! Before trying to get rid of Saddam Hussain(a person who has travelled around the world will realize that he is, believe it or not, one of the BETTER dictators in this world) WHY are we ignoring feeding starving people(present US Aid funds are very very low, compared to what it is CAPABLE of giving) Or EVEN if you want to punish, names of dicatators MUCH MUCH worse (some have killed more than 20 times the people Saddam has) have lived in this world, and some still continue to live, but the US Government has done NOTHING about them. To say that the people of Iraq needed liberation more than anybody else is LAUGHABLE.

Gonna school you here, not call you names. I'm not your enemy, just trying to help someone in need in hopes you don't screw my life up.
The war in Iraq is about eliminating and replacing the environments necessary for terrorist threats to manifest. That is the only goal, that is why Iraq was targeted and not some province in India.
WMD? That was Colin Powell's idea. He advocated making the public argument on that basis because it would be more sallable to the international community.
Humanitarian? Personally I agree with this tenent. Of all the situations you mention, this is the only one that the pbulic would have supported doing anything at all. Iraq is an identifyable enemy, they have been shooting at our aircraft for years, and tried to assasinate one of our presidents. Saddam may not rate as a 'bad guy' with mistreating his people with you, but he's definitly in the international top ten.
It really comes down to one thing - a strategy of fighting terrorism by elminiating it's home basis. Iraq was such a home base. Deny this and, well, you're an idiot and there's nothing I can do to convince you. Evidence is there man.
The belief is that terrorists - even in large international organizations will have tremendously reduced ability if there are no friendly areas from which they can gain the necessary resources.
Are there regimes more supportive of terrorism? Yes. Are there other regimes as supportive of terrorism? Yes.
In achieving the ultimate goal - the long road - of reforming or replacing terrorist friendly regimes in Syria, Suadi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, etc. - is the correct first step knocking out Saddam and building a peaceful, democratic Iraq? Yes.
The results of this will not be resolved for a generation. This is a long haul. And the only thing that can possibly prevent the sucess of this strategy is a lack of will to do what is necessary when it is neccesary on behalf of people like yourself.
Let's see, President Bush dramatically increased funding to fight AIDS in Africa over what the Cliton administration was allocating. Thousands are dying from starvation because environmentalists will not allow the use of DDT which would greatly increase food production. And also socialists dictators ruin the farming capabilities of the societies they rule. What else. Oh did you mention Cliton as the savior of the Rwandans. NO, and we all know why not. And you say saddam has only killed 20,000 in the last decade. I think that's where you really meant to say, that he killed that many in his last month of power. Or did you mean to say he only killed 20,000 towns and villages. There you would be right.
