What is happening with Bashir?
According to the Melbourne Age yesterday (the 21st), recent developments are as follows:
BALI BOMBERS QUIZZED OVER BASHIR
Police in Indonesia have questioned several death-row Bali bombers as they continue to build a case again radical Islamic cleric and suspected Jemaah Islamiah spiritual leader Abu Bakar Bashir.
Bashir, 66, was rearrested last month amid rioting over accusations linking him to terrorist attacks including the 2002 Bali blasts, last year's suicide bombing at the Jakarta Marriott Hotel, and a string of attacks on churches.
He was bundled into a police van just seconds after completing a jail term for minor immigration violations.
Police recently moved him to a more luxurious cell at the national police headquarters to make him more comfortable as they complete an investigation likely to take at least four months and using tough anti-terrorism laws put in place after the Bali blasts.
As part of that investigation, anti-terrorism officers said they had questioned Amrozi bin Haji Nurhasyim - the so-called laughing bomber behind the Bali attack - as well as his brother Ali Imron, known as the repentant bomber for his remorse over the blasts.
Amrozi has been sentenced to death, while Ali Imron received a life sentence.
Chief investigator brigadier-general Pranowo said the pair had been questioned in jail in Denpasar, denying claims by Bashir's lawyer Achmad Michdan that they had been bought to Jakarta for interrogation.
"Amrozi and Ali Imron were questioned in Bali, not here in Jakarta," Pranowo told The Jakarta Post.
Michdan said he had run into Amrozi at police headquarters, where detectives planned to question about 50 bombing suspects and prisoners throughout the country as witnesses in Bashir's case.
"I conveyed my condolences to Amrozi for his father's death. He looked healthy," Michdan said.
He said Ali, Amrozi and their older brother Mukhlas, alias Ali Ghufron, who has also been sentenced to death, had refused to testify against Bashir.
Police said they were now planning to interview Bashir's alleged successor as JI spiritual leader, Abu Rusdan, who has been sentenced to more than three years in prison, along with jailed militants in Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.
Bashir's lawyers have filed a counter-lawsuit accusing police of wrongful arrest.
Police claim to have documents placing Bashir at a March 2000 passing out parade for JI militants at a secret jungle training camp in the southern Philippines run by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
One of the militants was reportedly Indonesian Fathur Rahman al-Ghozi, who was jailed for a bomb attack in Manila in 2000 and shot by Philippines police after escaping jail last year.

I'm tempted to say "put them all into one stinking cell and let God sort it out" but I'm not that vengeful and I'm agnostic to boot, so....

Handcuff and chain him to a cypress tree in a South Carolina swamp and he will be blubbering and begging for a bullet long before he dies.

One think that I find consistent in bravado and bluster like this is how self-absorbed it all is. Does he really think his victim is just going to stand there, paralyzed, while this guy 'butchers' him?
That is to say, doesn't it even occur to them that the person being attacked will at least try to defend themselves, and maybe even get the upper hand?

"My ambition is to be shot," he said, Then don't shoot him. Tie him up and then sew up him alive in the semi-gutted carcass of a giant pig, and then let him die there.

In fact, if we did that to all our Islamist enemies, it would go a long way to stem terrorist recruitment.

Oh, but
before the Iraq war he wouldn't have killed Howard if he had the chance.
He only would have set off a bomb designed to kill as many Australians as possible...
