The PC Press War and the Public
GOPUSA ^ | May.20,2004 | Lisa Fabrizio

This week's bombshell seems an awful lot like last week's and the week before: liberal reporter finds 'evidence' of a shocking story, liberal legislators conduct somber investigations demanding answers from the Administration, liberal press endlessly spins the results and the nation yawns.

For the last month, it was the cacophony of 'Bush Knew' stories which lead to the appalling public grilling of Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and others. This backfired as the immediate result was the inflation of President Bush's poll numbers, and so commenced the quest for a new shocking revelation. Enter the Abu Ghraib prison-abuse story.

You can only cry wolf so often and when Americans are asked to direct their indignation at the U.S. military, their famously short attention span narrows significantly. Add to the mix that the 'victims' in this case are, for the most part, bloodthirsty barbarians sworn to their slaughter and you have what is known as a non-event to most people.

Not so among the liberal media, whose outrage is, as usual, at a frenzied fever pitch--a level they've vigorously maintained since oh, December 12, 2000. On that day, when the U.S. Supreme Court ordered an end to the dubious counting methods condoned by their Florida counterparts, their mission became clear: the combination of bumbling cowpoke and flint-eyed imperialist that is George W. Bush must be driven out of office at all costs.

On the way to that lofty goal, the monstrous assault known as 9/11 temporarily stalled the liberal plan, but not to worry, operations are now back in full sway. And what better vehicle than one of their favorite moldy oldies, American military abuse? Although one wonders why current Army commanders were questioned when the greatest expert on the subject presently resides at the top of their presidential ticket.

Speaking of the presumptive Democratic nominee, it is he of course who has the most to gain from the continuing chorus of galloping woe dished out by the press. "Out of sight, out of mind," is never more apropos than when applied to John Kerry. Which is just the way his handlers prefer it and why you shouldn't expect a respite from the 24/7 reportage of bad news from Iraq any time soon.

Many have pointed out that some of the more enthusiastic coverage of the Abu Ghraib story and the non-stop airing of the photos amount to giving aid and comfort to our enemies and they are right. But the liberal media are only re-enacting their greatest triumph, one which ultimately led to the deaths of millions of innocents in Southeast Asia.

They somehow succeeded in promoting the notion that elected politicians should not be in charge of the way wars are conducted, but that the press should. And to this day that notion persists, especially in the Iraq conflict.

Is there any doubt that we could finish off the 'insurgents' post haste if we really wanted to? Is there any doubt as to who it is that is preventing just that? According to our PC press, not only is collateral damage strictly forbidden, but hurt feelings are also apparently off-limits.

For example, nearly all stories reported from Iraq contain the word 'holy', suggesting that we may not attack anything, anytime or anyplace that might insult tender Muslim religious sensibilities. Think about it: is there a building, neighborhood, city, month or day that is not 'holy' in the entire country?

So U.S. soldiers must die in order that they do not offend a miniscule part of a population whose very religion commands their deaths. If there is any consternation on the part of the American people it is that this insanity is allowed to continue unabated.

But continue it will as long as no recent politician has shown the resolve to challenge the wrath of the fifth columnists of the fourth estate. George W. Bush has come the closest and is now reaping the rewards of trying to protect the nation as he (and the majority of the Congress at the time) saw fit.

Things change however, and the ruthless, cowardly murder of Nicholas Berg by a pack of beasts not fit to live has once again focused the country's attention on the severity of evil we must face and defeat. The fact that his executioner was none other than Abu al Zarqawia a known Al Qaeda lieutenant who's been in Iraq since May of 2002, should be instructive to those who don't believe Iraq has any significance in the War On Terror.

A recent poll that showed overwhelming support for Donald Rumsfeld is proof that the American people can discern the difference between the mistreatment of a handful of prisoners by a few bad eggs and the rampant slaughter that will impend should we fail.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a list of 'shocking revelations' laid out by the democratic surrogates in the press ( pray that it would get on the Internet!). You can almost bet there will be one after another all the way to November. The dems cry will be Halliburton, National Guard, Abuse, no WMDs and more. The only problem is that they have been in campaign mode since the campaign of 2000 and the public tired of soreloserman has largely tuned out. Hence, the number of TV news watchers continues it's down-slide.

I agree with the article. I believe most Americans (60-70%) will tire of this endless crying wolf by the Dems. Especially if Iraq calms down.

Do you know how we'll know if things have calmed down in Iraq? Will the US media tell us? Of course not. We'll know because all that the US media will be showing (except FOX) will be crimes and accidents in the US. No news from the lib broadcasting companies will be GOOD NEWS.

The media is out of control, over the edge, and has nearly become an enemy of the United States of America.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

To these whiners and ememies of the state.

A “Col Jeesup's rant” I think it's time for Donald Rumsfeld to have a few words with ABCNBCBCCNN:

"Liberals, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, ABCNBCCBCCNN?

"I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for prisoners at Abu Ghraib and curse the Commander-In-Chief, you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that prisoner intimidation at Abu Ghraib, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives."

"You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at ABCNBCBCCNN you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punch line in a propaganda headline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to TV media who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it.

I would rather you just said "thank you," and you go back to reporting the real news. Otherwise, I suggest that you get off that elitist throne, put down the microphone equipment, push away from the feeding trough, waddle your fat ass outta my sight and SHUT YOUR MOUTH! Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to."

And to the GOP - Where are the commercials pointing this out? If we cannot get the media on our side through fruitlessly faxing press releases, then we must BUY the time to see/hear it in the press.

For the first time I am really worried how this is all going to turn out.

The TV Networks are pulling out all the stops, they have clearly decided to do everything in their power to turn people against the war in Iraq.

How dare you post these vicious lies! Everyone knows that Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism or Al Qaeda!

Seriously though, I had a conversation with a hard core leftist over the internet some weeks ago. I referred to Iraq as a "terrorist mecca" and she took issue with that. It's gotten to the point where the left is beginning to deny that Hussein ever had anything to do with terrorism at all.

Great article!

If the press had hounded FDR and the military like this in WWII, the war would have been called a quagmire long before we invaded Normandy. And remember, more Americans died in a WWII training mission than in the whole Iraqi war so far. See the below thread:

World War II - over 900 U.S. Dead in Attack on Training Mission April 28, 1944
Facts about WWII ^ | before April 28, 2004 | unknown

Posted on 04/28/2004 10:17:22 PM PDT by BillF

Because of bad planning by American officers and mistakes by the Royal Navy, over 900 American troops were killed during 'Operation Tiger'. 'Tiger' was a practice exercise for D-Day held at Slapton Sands, England. In the early A.M. of April 28 1944, 7 LSTs packed with troops from the U.S. VII corps and escorted by only one outdated Corvette, were attacked by German E-Boats. By the time the shooting had stopped the E-Boats had retired without loss and 946 GIs were dead (four times as many than were killed on Utah beach in the real invasion!!) The incident was hushed up until only recently because of fears that if the truth became known, Anglo-American relations would be damaged. [emphasis added]

[snip]

[MY COMMENTS:]

Sixty years ago today [April 28, 2004], over 900 brave Americans died in a single battle.

How would today's media react to that story if the President was a Republican when the tragedy occurred? And how would today's Democrats react?

As Americans and British practiced amphibious landings for the invasion of Normandy scheduled for 5 weeks later, German torpedo boats happened upon the American landing crafts. German forces suffered no losses, but 946 Americans were dead.

May God bless all of those American troops who perished that day, as well as those who gave "the last full measure of devotion" from the bridge at Concord in 1775 to the edge of Falija in 2004. Each and every fallen American was someone's son, father, brother, daughter, sister, or mother. Each death was a grievous loss.

That said, the 720 some American dead in Iraq is much lower than I expected. Liberating 25 million people, ousting Saddam, taking over a country the size of California, and giving its people a chance for democracy is an achievement of momentous significance.

The 946 Americans, who died at the hands of the Nazis 60 years ago today, helped lay the foundation for the successful Normandy invasion 5 weeks later.

About 2000 Americans died on June 6, 1944, the first day of the Normandy invasion (includes dead at Utah beach, the other beaches and paratroopers who died further inland). Then again, maybe the libs would not call it a quagmire until the Battle of the Bulge 6 1/2 months later?

The press has failed miserably in its duty to put current events in historical perspective.

When the Iraq invasion was paused due to a sandstorm, the press screamed quagmire. The media said that a U.S. armored column advance towards Baghdad was bogged down, despite the fact that it was as fast, if not faster, than George Patton's stunningly fast WWII tank advances.

And the tragic deaths of over 700 brave Americans, who laid down their lives for our country in Iraqi service, is taken as evidence of policy failure, despite the fact that the deaths are historically low in comparison to any remotely comparable war.

Also, about 6500 Americans drown every year. Our country is paying a heavier price for people's desire to swim and boat than the price we pay, in terms of deaths, for liberating Iraq from a WMD-loving mass murderer.
