LIBERAL, Kan. -- Two cats left alone in a southwest Kansas home are blamed for starting a fire this week that damaged the kitchen, and spread smoke through the rest of the house.
Liberal Fire Department investigators said the cats apparently jumped up on the stove and ignited a burner by stepping on a push button. Material on the stove caught fire and the flames spread to other areas of the kitchen.
Officials said the cat owner was out of town, and the fire apparently burned unnoticed for some time.
The cats survived, but are being treated at a Liberal animal hospital.
There's a joke in there somewhere.
Too close to reality to joke about. My male cat, Edgar, learned how to turn on the space heater in my bedroom a couple of years ago.
Helena, my eldest female cat, will sometimes start the washing machine by walking on the buttons.
If they learn how to turn on the gas stove, I'm doomed.
Far Side alert.
Hubby came home one day to a house full of gas fumes...my cat had jumped up on the stove and in the process, accidently turned the knob to the on position. Fortunately for us, the electronic ignition on that stove is hard to trigger and our hot water heater is behind a panel on the exterior of the house and is vented well. Took two hours to air out the house.
LOL
(bet the author has a yappy 'drop-kick' mutt)
My cat apparently thinks it is funny to walk across my alarm clock and reset the time.
Nobody notice this? I wonder how those cats were registered?
Must be alien cats.
Please stop me now.
How about "101 Things to do with a Dead Cat" alert.
Cute...especially funny since I feed my cat on the dryer to keep the dogs from getting her food.
How can they blame the cats when Bush is obviously to blame?
That cartoon reminds me of the time my wife was doing laundry. She stopped the dryer for a moment to retrieve something, turned around to place it in a basket and then shut the door, little did she realize spitfire had jumped into the dryer. About 45 minutes later, to her horror, she dicovered the poor thing, she cried for a week over that.
I was paralysed with fear one night thinking some weird sicko ax murderer was playing our piano. Terror turned to anger so I went stomping to the living room and let loose. Poor cat never went near the piano again.
I googled on "liberal animal hospital" to check out the place, and this was the first article to pop up.

My siamese tortoiseshell cat will walk across the top of my bose wave radio, and turn it on if she feels she's being ignored, some times at the aforementioned 3 AM. nothing like listening to WJR at full volume at that hour. I come out to turn it off and she stares at me as if to say "what??". Curious and JUST smart enough to be trouble, thats a dangerous mix in a house pet.
