Four decades separate the war in the jungle from the war in the desert, yet the current president from Texas sounds eerily similar to another president from Texas.
George W. Bush says, "Now is the time, and Iraq is the place." Lyndon B. Johnson said, "The time is now, and the place is Vietnam." Bush says, "Bring 'em on." Johnson said, "Nail the coonskin to the wall."
Bush says, "We are fighting that enemy in Iraq... so that we do not meet him again on our own streets, in our own cities." Johnson said, "If we quit Vietnam, tomorrow we'll be fighting in Hawaii, and next week we'll have to fight in San Francisco."

They lasted seven days longer then you.
Vietnamese Communists were not going to follow us home and kill our families in the streets. These jihadis certainly will. They already have. This war will not go away, when we get tired of it.
"the truth is that the war was not justified by any "imminent" threat -- which is the only justification for a preemptive war"
Why do you talk the lies of Ted Kennedy yet claim to be conservative?
Why do you spout DNC talking points that have been DISPROVEN time and time again?
Nobody claimed the threat was imminent. What was claimed was that it was utter nonsense to spout what you just did, that war is only justified when the threat is 'imminent'. Such a concept is an unknowable one when facing terrorism. They plot secretly.
Was Al Qaeda an imminent threat on Sept 10,2001???
How would we know?
Bush explained that we dont want to know the threat was indeed 'imminent' after the fact, after a disaster happened.
"Because I don't want Kerry in the White House, I have to say these unpopular truths now, while there might be time for Bush to turn away from the cliff up ahead."
Hogwash. The only rational course now is "stay the course" - any other course would make Kerry President and cost us dearly in the War on Terror.
What do you, in your wisdom, think the consequences for the WOT would be if Bush just said "never mind" and left Iraq?
Because you can only call names in an pathetically infantile way, rather than carry on reasoned arguments, I hope the moderator won't mind if I call you what you are - - a juvenile idiot - - in this post, while letting you know that I'll be ignoring any further rantings from you tonight, as is my usual practice. So if you want some finger and wrist exercise, type away, but I won't be reading or responding to any of it.
"This is the 'global war on terrorism' not the 'global war on the perps who did 9-11'."
"Unfortunately, you're partly right, because we still haven't defeated Al Queda or captured or killed Osama - even though they're the ones who did 9-11. This makes our "war on terror" a joke so far."
That makes you a g*dd**n idiotarian troll for once again spouting absurd lies.
We have taken out Sheik Khalid Muhammed, the mastermind of 9-11. No Joke. We've taken out 70% of Al Quaeda leadership. No joke. We've rolled up cells and made arrests in dozens of countries. No joke.
We are winning the GWOT overall just as we are winning in Iraq.
Those are for reasoned threads, not defeatist crap like this that unfortunately soils the good name of an intelligent man.
Excellent answer!
If he threw all his effort into destroying Al Queda and capturing or killing Osama and the rest of the command structure, I'd call that a long-overdue prime victory in the WOT. In fact, it's more important than ever, because Al Queda has Saudi Arabia in its sites, and if they cause chaos there, our oil supply goes kaput. Talk about a death scenario for the Bush administration!
It was Al Quade that killed 200 in Spain recently - triggering their withdrawal from Iraq. Al Quade is anything but dead - - and Osama, the mastermind, apparently is still alive and well, unless you know differently.
You know the old line..." IF YOUR SO SMART, HOWS COME YOU AIN'T RICH ?" Well, if you're so smart, how come you ain't at least in the president's cabinet?
No WMDs? Sarin gas ands mustard gas aren't WMDs?
Playing footsie with and harboring al Qaeda training camps count for nothing?
I could elaborate some more, but you MUST have seen all of the rational arguments many times before.
BTW,historically, the King's jesters were tortured, thrown into dungeons,and/or killed in rather foul, nasty ways, for displeasing the king, the queen,or any member of the court. It's a canard, that a king's jester could tell him what no other could and most assuredly NOT anything about how to run the country/a war!:-)
I do believe Chamberlainbuff here has gotten English and french history mixed up.
So, you foresee no negative consequences to leaving Iraq and the effect on both the terrorists organizations, Al Queda being only one of hundreds and the Islamic world in general not to mention the allies that have stood with us?
I think he still believes that Fortress America will protect us.
The Globe is too small now.
The weapons too horrendous!
As far as the Chicom front is concerned -- we're not fighting in San Francisco because now we're fighting in wal-mart.
Very true. \That's why the WOT should focus on Al Quade, the folks who did 9-11 (and more recently killed 200 in Spain and is suspected in the recent Saudi Arabia terrorism. The Iraq thing was a diversion from the WAR. Saddam - evil, no question -- but he wasn't behind 9-11, even Bush admitted so; in fact, he wasn't an Islamist, that's why Osama hated him.

"Because you can only call names in an pathetically infantile way"
Whereas surely your name-calling and ad hominem is far more mature. Certainly. Probably due to having more practice at it.
"I hope the moderator won't mind if I call you what you are - - a juvenile idiot "
Ah, yes, quite mature, that.
"I'll be ignoring any further rantings from you tonight, as is my usual practice. So if you want some finger and wrist exercise, type away, but I won't be reading or responding to any of it."
Oh, yes, what we could learn from you. Now why hadnt I thought of doing that before I stepped into this thread?!?
No I think he has a broader agenda.
