We could compromise. Make it into a public housing facility for all the Jihadists and their enablers. Then destroy it.

I think that they should still bulldoze the prison, and make a different memorial--perhaps make it a place of prayer and reflection. Just my $0.02, based on a spiritual warfare perspective.

Like a bunch of frogs storming another (empty) Bastille. These people have too much time on their hands. They ought to be locked up so that they can't harm anyone.

Seems this would make for a good candidate for the Line Item veto if this item makes it's way into the final bill.

PUL-EESE --This is NOT Auschwitz!

Under US control, it wasn't.

Under Saddam's control, it was a passing imitation.

Ridiculous! Another example of symbolism over substance!

Bingo.

"Abu Ghraib should be destroyed. Much evil was done there during the Hussein era."

Using that rationale, why not just carpet bomb the entire country, and start all over again?

Is the US congress going to start making Iraqi law too? If they get a head start with the Iraqi education system, they can dumb them down so all Iraqi will be Democrats. Right?

Abu Ghraib was a place dedicated to evil. Think of it as a temple to Baal.

Most of the country of Iraq merely tried to live their lives, stay fed, and stay the heck out of Abu Ghraib and its kin.

That may be, but the timing of destroying it now is more than a bit odd -- wouldn't you say?

Timing, schmiming.

We should've used it for training demolitions experts and not housing prisoners.

Pennsylvania Reps. Curt Weldon a Republican, and John P. Murtha a Democrat

Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dumber!

Let's just send these two jerks to Syria.

``This prison was a symbol of terrorism under Saddam, and it was an institution that the Iraqi people despised,'' Weldon said. The Iraqi people will have the ultimate say in this after our House and Senate.

I'm fine with the Iraqis having the final say. I hope that they just knock the place down and build something a bit more pleasing to God than a place to torture people for annoying Saddam Hussein.

Then again the Iraqis could tear it down themselves on July 1, 2004.

Is the prison even "ours" to tear down? Thought Abu G. was in Iraq. Shouldn't the leadership there have some say in the matter?

Our Congresscritters have again overly excited themselves with their own brilliant ideas.
