I don't think it was coincidence that Chalabi apparently aided Iran. He didn't aid any of the Sunni-majority nations-- Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, etc.

The problems with the Kurds have calmed down, but they will be back.
First, the Kurds are not truly unified. They have some serious political rifts that end in bloodshed.
Then there is the fact they actually want territory in Iran and Turkey and I believe a former Soviet Union.
The entire region has basically the same problems as the Balkans. The borders are artificial, and the areas with a majority have little enclaves of the people they hate the most in the world.
The Kurds have been cooperative with us, but they aren't saints, just haven't been in power/
