Artist's rendering of Sgt. Hassan Akbar and defense attorney at pretrial hearing.
I thought freepers might like an update. Looks like the Army is taking their time on this one -- I think we're all hoping they do this one right by reaching a correct verdict in a way that will withstand any later appeals.

I see that there was little press coverage of this trial. I guess the media was focused on more important things.

Is the defense lawyer really that dumb? Would an E-4 view this case any differently than an O-4? My guess is no, especially since the rules state that the panel must be selected from the unit in which the alleged crime took place. He's just trying to delay the inevitable.
What I want to know is will this jerkoff be subject to the death penalty? Again, my guess is no. If this occured in WWII, there would have been a summary court-martial in the field, with the outcome being a firing squad. Too bad this is a kinder, gentler Army today.

Thanks for the update - I've seen a number of people asking about an update on this case. As for this idiot, I say we grant the 'change of venue' request and relocate him to Gitmo so he can be closer to his terrorist pals.
When they convict this animal, I hope they pour over the military law books to find the most painful way to legally execute him.
