*See post 23. I failed to mention that there are 22 grades of gasoline in this country (including ethanol--more expensive to make, but forced down your throat by T. Daschle), and there has not been a new refinery built in 20 years. In fact, the Saudis offered to build 2 new 500,000 bbl. per day refineries, here in the US, at no cost to us. There only requirement is that we give them permits--we couldn't even do that. The only solution would be to start making 1 grade of gas, 1 grade of diesel, etc. (make it the toughest if you want New York or Calif.) and convert the refineries where they are interchangeable.
That is so moronic. Go ahead and boycott your gas station today. But tomorrow it's back to normal.
Your gas station only gets fuel deliveries once a week, so he'll never even notice your protest.
I don't think you meant to post that to me.
To have an impact, we'd all have to stop driving one day a week.
Correct. Plenty of Saudi crude is consumed in the US
>>Chavez, the nutcase who is the main reason why OPEC is cutting production
It's our friends the Saudis cuttin production. Gotta have high crude prices to keep funding the jihad.
Silly Absurd Boycotts that simply make simpleminded feebletons think they've accomplished something.
CITGO, SHMITGO, Who cares? Gas is gas. Better Venezuela than the Saudis, even if your claim is accurate IMO.
So, reducing demand is the only leverage. Unfortunately, that can only have a limited effect because we are continuing to add to the driving population every day. Overall demand is likely to continue to grow.
And protests completely miss the point. Prices are set not by oil companies, but by the commodities market based on supply and demand.
>>the boutique gasoline rules
Would be nice to have an EO overturning state rules and mandating uniform standards across the country.
And really, the whining is too much, gas prices are reasonable compared to the rest of the world, and there is no god given right to cheap gas.
These higher prices may help give the Saudi Royals some breathing room. The Russians aren't complaining either.
I don't know if an EO can override these mandates by the EPA or not, but somehow they need to be rolled back. Either that or we have to figure out a way to expand our refining capacity in this country. We already consume more gasoline than we can produce.
>>a way to expand our refining capacity in this country.
Funny thing is those decrying our dependence on oil and will never let refineries be built or exploration increased in the US to help alleviate conditions, instead they ask for absurdities like draining the SPR.
And they don't believe that the Kennedy family is also an oil family, owning Mobil shares, now Exxon too.
Yeah, the Democrats need to explain how draining SPR would increase the gasoline supply when our refineries are already maxxed out.
The old Geezer, Stretch here again... Remember, folks, when Al Gore sold part of our strategic oil reserve on the coast of California ---secretAly to Occidental Oil, of which he owns millions of shares. Last I heard of Occidental Oil, it was selling that oil to Russia. Remember Occidental Oil was formed by Armand Hammer... the great friend of Stalin... ???? Some of old geezers remember many things.... and keep many files of such... such as Remember Pearl Harbor as we should Remember 9/11... and never forget Hitlery and billy...who are probably responsible, and advising to this day, the terrorists of the world.
Armand Hammer was a great commie-lover, though.
I get these boycott Exxon/Mobil emails all the time...but I think they are put out by the pro-homosexual crowd.
Exxon/Mobil is the only major gas company that does NOT offer benifits to live in homosexual partners.
Sounds like a good reason to SUPPORT them....
Our local USA station gets 6,000 gallons delivered A DAY....
There's no supply and demand magic in oil prices. It's not a secret that OPEC controls the supply, therefore the price.
And GM could make 80 million Corvettes a year. Controlling supply is not unique to OPEC.
....Wouldn't that lower the price of Corvettes? Isn't that why OPEC manipulates supply? To control prices ?
Grow up.
All producers of any product manipulate supply in an effort to match demand and it has an effect on price.
