Why is Darby a hero, but Miranda a felon?

Instead of President Bush repeatedly apologizing over the alleged mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison – he should be asking the following question: "Why is whistleblower Spc. Joe Darby praised as a hero for alerting superiors of photos depicting his counterparts abusing prisoners, when former senior aide to Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., Manuel Miranda was lied to, misrepresented, slandered, stabbed in the back first by Sen. Orin Hatch, R-Utah, and then Frist, while being referred to in the most abusive terms for showing no less temerity in what has become known as Memogate?"

Someone in the Republican Party should be asking: "Why was Manny Miranda, the most determined of public servants pursuant to ending the liberal obstructionism to the president's judicial nominees, forced to resign with an infant child and wife to support, while Darby's family is being "whined" and dined courtesy of the mainstream network news programs?"

Why isn't there a conservative Republican insisting that the content of the 4,000 plus Memogate memos – that unambiguously prove Democrat obstructionism is being orchestrated by the draconian influence of liberal special interest minions – being investigated?

Why is Robert Byrd, D-W.Va. – who as a former Klu Klux Klansman grand kleagle, participated in the systematic persecution of blacks – permitted to demagogue this situation?

Why is Ted Kennedy, D-Mass. – who in a drunken stupor drove Mary Jo Kopechne into the Chappaquiddick River, then abandoned her trapped in the vehicle to experience the most agonizing of deaths, while he returned to a hotel room until the following morning – given a pass as he crudely attacks our brave troops?

Why are Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Richard Durbin, D-Ill. – both of whom were forced to resign senate committees because of unsanctioned improprieties – not being challenged as they divisively ridicule our military?

Thanks to the networks – which begin every newscast reporting the number of American troops lost in battle as the Pulitzer method of reporting – even the least lucid of congressmen know how many die daily. But how many Democrats, media parasites or hand-wringing conservatives know the number of American and coalition troops being held as prisoners?

Where was the hand wringing and gnashing of teeth when Saddam Hussein used poisoned gas on his own people? Where were these dyspeptic Luddites when Hussein was creating hundreds of thousands of anonymous graves?

Where was the Arab press – that now paints the American and coalition forces who single handedly opened the doors, freeing those imprisoned in the torture cells and the death camps as villainous invaders – when Hussein was still in power?

Where was the Arab world, the Democrat Party and elite liberals when the families of four brave Americans could but watch and beseech the "Throne of God" for comfort, as the same media that refuses to replay the horror of 9-11, replayed over and over the burning, mutilated remains of their children and loved ones in Fallujah?

The media along with salivating liberal Bush-haters decry the photos of rape, which have been shown to be from a pornographic website – not Abu Ghraib – but where was the outrage as American women were in fact raped and sodomized? Jessica Lynch got a lot of airplay, but that shouldn't be confused with sympathy. She was young, attractive and movie and book worthy.

This is war. It isn't pretty. It isn't nice. Ninety-nine percent of America will never know what it is like because another American will take their place. They will simply bemoan and protest the effort and accomplishments of those prepared to sacrifice all for their right to do so.

If as has been suggested, the actions at Abu Ghraib were part of a "softening up" in preparation for interrogation, so be it. A friend put it best when he said:

Our own American soldiers and citizens have the worth of human waste in liberal eyes. It is a sad day in human civilization when our own liberal American citizens worry more about Arctic wasteland (ANWR), whales and snail darters than the lives of our soldiers defending their rights to behave this way and the lives of our unborn children ... the liberals are so arrogant in their self worth, that they do not understand that the Islamic movement is coming after them also.

I would suggest that the anti-American left consider the following: 99.9 percent of the American military are honest, God-fearing Americans who love their country. The other .1 percent are mirror images of them.

While the president has the right to apologize (once), I submit he needs to prioritize what is important – genuflecting to racist Arab hoodlums, or making certain that loyal foot soldiers working in the trenches to take back our judicial system are protected.

In the aftermath of the beheading of Nick Berg, it will be interesting to see if the same moral indignation is shown to those murderous Arab swine by the anti-American left as they evidenced toward American MPs at Abu Ghraib. My guess is: not even close. They will blame the president and argue we should enlist the United Nations, France and Germany.

Why is Darby a Hero but Miranda a Felon?

I don't know, but I suspect it's Bush's fault.
