Dick Morris, who had everyone here on FR in a tizzy a couple of weeks ago saying Bush was in big trouble and that Kerry was in good shape has now changed his tune.
*Despite having "the worst 6 weeks of any president in recent history," Bush's poll numbers have stabilized.
"If I had to pick, right now, today, I'd say Kerry would win, but if I had to pick who is looking better for November, I'd say Bush."
Morris said that he expects that Iraq situation to die down, especially after the transfer of power, and that we'll pull back to bases in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and this will cause the "War on Terror" to re-emerge as the main issue as opposed to the "War in Iraq." Bush wins on that issue, he says.
Hannity asked about gas prices and ANWAR. Not an issue, Morris said. The public is focused on the war. Where Bush and the Republicans can do damage to Kerry is on his support for the gas tax.
Overall, Morris seemed to think Bush had hit bottom and would start to recover, contrary to what he said a few weeks ago (I know, Morris changes his tune a lot).
Asked about his next book, Morris said instead of a counter to Hillary's "Living History" ("Rewriting History"), it would be a rebuttal to Clinton's "My Life." Morris said he would need two volumes, and would call it
"Get a Life."
D Morris is always an interesting read.
I'm reading Morris's latest book right now...it's actually not that much of a hit on Hillary. He is pretty objective about her positives and negatives.
(I know, I know...I said "her positives"!!)
Not good news if Dick Morris is predicting that Bush will win in November. Not good news at all.
I decided a while ago that Morris really doesn't know what he is talking about.
Sunday I was getting real discouraged, especially since there are no Republicans coming out to defend the president. However, since then, it looks like his poll numbers are starting to stabilize, so maybe the worst has come. I hope so.
If Morris says that Bush is going to win then I am worried. Morris has a pretty consistent track record of being wrong when it comes to calling elections.
I think he's right. The news cycle has hit a bottom for Bush for now.
Dick Morris is the John Kerry of punditry. Hell, he's not even really a pundit...he's a salesperson, a Clintonesque talking head...he's taken every side of every issue, predicted every outcome possible, so that when it happens, he can say, "Just as I said..."
What is obvious about Bush is that he has matured into his own man. He doesn't need any other Republicans to lead him, he will lead them. That is what this country has needed in a leader for a long time. The next few months will see if congress will go along with it or not.
My theory is that Ted Kennedy doesn't like Bush because Bush can't be bought.
Dick who?
Dick who?
Why did that post twice?
Bingo.
You're right about that. In fact, he won't bet with Bill O'Reilly anymore because Bill wins all the time... :)
"we'll pull back to bases in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia"
Hey Dick. We don't have bases in SA anymore.
"Dick who?"
Dicktoes Morris!
Is it any good? I briefly looked through his book at Barnes & Noble and thought the book was a little too dense for me.
