Here's my take on Berg. He was a gifted but under-socialized young man who wanted recognition and approval. He saw himself as a hero to the Jew/Muslim conflict. The go-between, acceptable to both sides, that brought the parties together.

His business was named after Prometheus the original hero image presented by Greek mythology. Prometheus brought fire to earth from the Heavens.

He pursued contacts with Muslims at every opportunity and he considered himself invulnerable and safe with them.

He wanted to talk their talk, that's why he studied anti-Jewish literature.

His delusional sense of power was also demonstrated by his weight lifting and boldness in approaching Muslim society. Finally, he made one contact too many.

Have you ever spilled an entire gallon of milk on the floor though? It covers a huge area. I'd expect that if someone was beheaded alive, the blood would be spurting and there'd be a massive, growing puddle of it.
