It is with great pride that I, RightOnline, and The Lovely Wife (aka "RightOnlinesWife") announce the commissioning of our eldest son (oldest of our seven children), known to fellow FReepers as "Future Snake Eater", as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
F.S.E. was commissioned on Friday afternoon, then received his B.A. degree the following day from NC State University. Combined with his recent marriage to his lovely new bride at the end of February, this has been quite the past few months for the RightOnline household and Future Snake Eater.
He will soon leave for Infantry Officer Training School, then Airborne, then Ranger school......then off to Ft. Lewis, WA, where he will lead a Stryker platoon.
Please join us in congratulating a fine young man who is going to make one hell of an Army officer.
God speed, Chris.
Cool! Congrats.
Yes, they definitely will. At first I was kind of bummed I didn't get the 82nd as my assignment, but the more I've read about the Stryker Brigades, the vehicles, and the soldiers, the more pumped I've become about the prospect of being a part of the group. Armor vehicles didn't sound too thrilling to me (I've been a Bradley crew member for about 6 years now), but these Strykers sound pretty slick.
Aww, thanks, CD! Now you're making me blush! :-)
PS - I didn't know you got married!
Yeah, on 29 FEB! I'd been meaning to put up a thread about it, but our server's been hiccuping a lot lately, making pictures difficult. Now it should be straight, though.
Strykers are going to see a lot of action.
Congratulations, and my thanks to you and yours for your service to our country.
sorry about how dark it is...bad room for photography!
I took my 7 yr old and his friend to the Armed Forces Show at Andrews AFB on Sunday. They had an M1A2, a Bradley and a Stryker at the Armor area along with various other MLRS and Patriots.
The guy who was attending the Stryker said that they haven't had one vehicle go down out of the brigade of Strykers that are in Iraq.
They are using slat rail armor which is stopping all RPG rounds. Apparently in testing the RPGs either explode outside the vehicle, safely away from the armor or do not explode at all as they get caught in the slats.
I wish you all the best...have fun in jump school...that will give you some down time prior to Ranger school lol.
I know your parents are incredibly proud of you. They have given you a tremendous gift - the dignity of leading your own life! They didn't cower and try to shield you from the responsibility of serving your country and they have raised you well to lead and to serve.
I know your faith will keep you in those moments when you are not at home and not near all those who so obviously love you.
You have it all sir. Faith, Hope, and Love. What more could a man possibly ask for?
Congratulations on your commissioning and your wedding. It has been a pleasure getting to know you and your family.
You will be in my prayers. Thank you for your service!

Mom ("RightOnlinesWife"), 2nd Lt. Alexander ("Future Snake Eater"), Dad (yours truly)
I needed to have my shades on; those damned shiny new bars...................................:)
Congratulations to you and your progeny!
Many, many congratulations! My Dad (USA) swore me in and my Uncle (USMC) gave me my first salute. Chris, you're part of something now that is going to be very difficult to explain to anyone who isn't or wasn't. Best of luck to you...except, of course, during the annual thrashing of the Army football team by the Middies... ;-)
Thanks much! Although, I can't hold much pride in our football team--they lost to East Carolina University for crying out loud! Navy's team is like Oklahoma in comparison to ECU! How bad can you get!?
WAY TO GO, SOON-TO-BE SNAKE EATER!
