My only problem with the show, wasn't really with the show, but with some of those participating on the periphery, the Indians/Native Americans that were there and complained about the "genocide" caused by diseases brought from Europe.

I want to shake them and say "Look, yeah, around 90 percent of your people got wiped out by disease. It's horrible that it happened, but you can't blame Europeans, it's nature. It could have easily gone the other way, Europeans or North American Natives could have easily brought diseases from North America back to Europe that wiped out 90% of Europe. Hell, Europe did go through several plagues that wiped out very large portions of the population. It's called nature, not much you can do.

Sorry for ranting. I'm of Spanish descent, and I just get tired of people complaining about diseases that Spaniards/Europeans carried with them.

They don't realize just how old it is getting. We chose to flip the channel when this part came on. We just knew we were in for a pc lecture once they started the discussion.

Check out "Guns, Germs and Steel", it is a good read, if a little left-leaning. It gives a good breakdown of disease and the basic assertion is that since Europeans lived close together and with animals, they were fairly disease resistant
