MORE than 200 anti-aircraft missiles have been found alongside a major highway in Russia's Far East, the ITAR-TASS news agency reported Sunday quoting military officials.

There was no immediate explanation as to how the missiles, which fit a 57mm launcher, ended up at a fork of a busy highway close to the town of Nakhodka.

The missiles, found late Saturday, have been taken to a nearby military base and an investigation into the incident has been launched, the news agency reported.

Sappers were due to examine the area where the missiles were found later on Sunday, it said.

This military 'base' must be in 'need' of these missiles?

There could be much more to this story. Nakhodka is not only a major sea port but is down by that little strip of land that borders North Korea and China.

Just found it on a map. I see what you mean, just a short trip in a truck to North Korea and into the hands of who knows who. Scary.

Russia -> North Korea -> Syria -> into the side of a Humvee in an Iraqi town near you..

The Militia aren't making what they are shooting at us. I bet there is a good black market fueling the insurgency.

Typical media news article. The 57mm rockets are unguided air-to-ground weapons. Standard Soviet designed munitions produced in literaly in their millions. Think of a nation that operates MiG or Sukhoi or Mil helicopters any you'll find them in their inventory. Both North Korea and China have thousands of these unguided rockets in their inventories.

The following is a MiG-21 fitted out with a 57mm rocket pod.

I'm sure the governments are making them by the dozen but 200 were left on the roadside for someone, other than the government, to pick up. Either that, or the driver liked his vodka a little too much.

Ahh, from Fox, Tony Randall died. That's too bad.
